Chapter 01: The Swans

In Texas the name Swan strikes fear into the hearts of those who break the law.

It all began in the early 1800s when the late, great Richard Swan was judge. Though a respectable family man, Judge Swan earned the name “The Hangman” due to the simple fact that not many men who entered his courtroom ever left it without a noose around his neck.

When Richard passed on his son Daniel took over.

Daniel wasn’t a judge like his father, but a prosecutor. Still, his prowess in the courtroom was just as noted and Prosecutor Daniel Swan was quickly noted for being the master of convictions. He never lost a case but, sadly, that is also what finally lead to his demise. One of the men he sentenced swore vengeance, and found a way to retaliate. He was gunned down on the courthouse stairs, leaving his wife and son, David, to grieve for their loss.

While growin up, David Swan swore revenge on his father’s killer. He joined the U.S. Marshall’s so he could track his father’s killer down, and eventually became the best in his field. As the years passed, David had finally began to settle down. He found himself a wonderful woman and built himself a life to be proud of. He also fathered a son Charles.

However, around the time of David’s retirement, word reached him that the man who killed his father had been seen in the Dallas area. With vengeance in his heart, he took off after him. A gun fight broke out and, when the gun smoke had finally settled, both men lay dead.

David’s son, Charles – what is there to say about the last male Swan to be born? He followed after the generations of great Swan men and became a Texas Ranger. Maybe not as prestigious as a Judge, Prosecutor or even a Marshall but, still, he was a man of honor.

Charlie – as he liked to be called – took his job seriously. It wasn’t until late in his career that he met his wife, Renee Platt. As a prosecutor in the state’s office ,she and Charlie worked together frequently. During these months of being close, they formed a relationship outside of work. It was two years after they were married that Renee gave birth to a beautiful baby girl:

Isabella Marie Swan, daughter of the last male Swan, was born July, 14th 1984.

From the time I discovered this story, I have loved it. I love how it’s broken into chapters now, as it’s easy to follow with my bad eyesight. I read this story every chance I get, and now I’m reading it again 🙂
