Chapter 10: Meeting Jasper Whitlock
Peter was awakened by the smell of coffee wafting up his nose. Sitting up and taking in his surroundings he remembered the night before. Standing up to stretch, he could feel his muscles protest; his back was sore and his neck stiff. Sleeping on the couch at his age was not the way to do sleep overs! Stumbling to the kitchen, he found Jasper already dressed for the day and leaning against the counter drinking a cup of said coffee.
“How’d you sleep?” Jasper asked.
“Like I was run over by a mack truck!”
“Well, I guess I’m just used to hard beds and uncomfortable sleeping arrangements,” Jasper chuckled to himself.
“Yeah well, I expect at least an air mattress next time,” Peter grumbled, while getting a cup of coffee.
“So, you think Charlotte has breakfast made yet?” Jasper asked, while peeking at Peter from the corner of his eye.
“Yep, I believe that she does. Why? Ya hungry or somethin’?” Peter smiled.
“ I haven’t eatin’ anything decent since Saturday when Char brought me those goodies at the jail.”
“Well hell then I suggest we make our way over their before the girls eat everything.” Peter said putting his empty cup in the sink.
Jasper went to mimic Peter’s actions before stopping dead in his tracks, coffee cup half way to the sink.
“Girls. As in more then one. Peter, you dog!”
“It’s not like that! You remember me tellin’ you about Char’s friend?”
“Some…”
“Well, she has been at the house all weekend helpin’ us go over the footage and takin’ notes. She is very observant and has picked shit out I wouldn’t have even thought to look for.”
“Wow! So she doesn’t even know me and is helpin’ out?”
“Yeah, but I’ll warn ya now: she is tough as nails – and her and Char are as thick as thieves. Not a pair I would wanna mess with.”
“Scared Peter?”
“You bet your all-American southern ass I am! Those two together are a force.”
“Okay, I will watch my back. But I think your over reactin’ just a tad.”
“Oh, you’ll see brother – you’ll see.”
They headed out to Peter’s house after that. It was only a few minutes away from Jasper’s so it wouldn’t take long to get there. As soon as they pulled up, Peter hopped out of the truck and made his way into the house with Jasper following closely behind. Walking into the living room, you could hear the girls’ giggles from the kitchen.
“Honey, I’m home!” Peter yelled into the house.
“Peter hun, is that you?”
“Who else would it be, you crazy woman?”
“Hell if I know!”
“Come give me some love, I missed you.”
Charlotte ran from the kitchen, jumping into Peter’s arms. They kissed passionately before letting each other go. A voice from the kitchen doorway got everyone’s attention.
“Awe now Peter, that’s not very polite. I thought I meant somethin’ to ya?”
“You do sweet thang – come here.”
Isabella made her way into the room and over to Peter. He pulled her into a tight embrace and kissed her cheek.
“That’s better.”
Jasper stood back watching the whole scene play out. He smiled as he watched the beautiful woman playfully banter with his brother and sister.
“So woman, where’s the food?” Peter asked looking toward the kitchen.
“See I told you that they could smell it miles away.” the two women laughed as they entered the kitchen.
Everyone seemed to not even notice Jasper’s presence in the room. At least he thought so. Until a warm hand touched his arm.
“Here.” the beautiful woman handed him a cup of coffee.
“Thank ya Ma’am.”
“Your welcome.”
They started heading for the kitchen; Jasper watching her hips sway as she walked in front of him. When he entered the kitchen behind her, they suddenly remember he was there.
“Oh shit, sorry Jasper! My manners seem to have left me with the smell of food in the way,” Peter said.
“Not a problem, bro. My brains get scrambled too when I come here and Charlotte cooks,” Jasper replied. The four laughed at that.
“So Jasper, this is my friend, Isabella. Isabella, this is my brother, Jasper,” Charlotte introdued them, as Peter had his mouth full.
“Pleasure to make your acquaintance,” Isabella said.
“Pleasure is all mine I’m sure,” Jasper said, taking her hand to kiss her knuckles.
Isabella blushed slightly.
“You weren’t jokin’ when you said he was a charmer, Char,” Isabella said, while smiling at Jasper.
“You’ve been talkin’ about me, Char? I’m flattered! But don’t believe everything you hear.”
“Jasper, I only said good things,” Charlotte told him while blushing herself.
“Well then, Isabella, please feel free to believe everything she says,” Jasper chuckled while pulling Charlotte to him.
“It’s good to see ya, Char. I hope I haven’t been to much trouble.”
“Your never trouble Jasper. As for that thing you call a wife…well…”
“Ex-wife, Char. I filed for divorce yesterday afternoon as soon as I got out of jail. Jenks will have the paper work for me to fill out later today.”
“Well good! You shouldn’t have any problems but if you do, we have proof of her infidelity.”
“Huh? What? How?”
“Oh shit, he hasn’t seen the footage yet has he?” Char asked looking at Peter who shook his head no.
“What footage? What am I missing?” Jasper asked.
“Jasper hun, why don’t you sit and eat first? Then we can go over everything.”
“Alright, but don’t think I will forget.”
Jasper sat down as Charlotte made him a plate. It didn’t take long for the boys to finish breakfast; they all made it back to the living room with fresh cups of coffee. Char went up to the TV and started a video. Jasper sat back and watched as Alice moved about his house like she would on any normal day. Then he saw when he came home on leave before his two year deployment; they paused the footage.
“This was when you came back for that week just before your last two years. Do you remember what went on that week?” Charlotte asked.
“Yeah we had a welcome home party that night. Then we spent the rest of the week out with friends and hung out at Masen’s Tavern,” Jasper told her.
They started the video again.
The party that Jasper mentioned was happening right in front of their eyes. Jasper began pointing people out and Isabella was writing down names to go with the faces on the screen. He then told them what was going on each time someone came or left the house; it was amazing the things he could remember.
Then the day of his departure came. He explained that Edward had spent the night on the couch so they could leave early in the morning. They went for breakfast and then made their way to the airport. He told them how they said their goodbyes and how when he turned around one last time that Alice was in Edwards arms, crying. He thought it was just him comforting her. They paused once the video once again.
“So your telling me you saw your best friend with his paws all over your girl and assumed that he was only comforting her?” Isabella asked.
“Well yeah, that’s what friends do when someone they love is crying, isn’t it?”
“Most times. But when you assume things you make an ass outta u and me. Or in your case, just you,” Isabella said.
Jasper thought about what she just said and figured there was more to this statement than he knew.
“Can we just finish watching this?” Peter asked. He knew the next part was going to tear Jasper up.
“Sure.” Charlotte hit play once again.
Jasper watched as the time flew past. Soon the front door to his house was opened and Alice and Edward stepped inside. Nothing appeared out of the ordinary yet, Jasper thought. Then as soon as the door was shut, Alice jumped into Edward’s arms. Wrapping her legs around his waist and smashing her lips to his, Jasper was stunned. He wasn’t sure how to feel about this, especially since he knew that at this point he had only been gone a few hours. Hell, he probably hadn’t even touched down yet. He watched as his wife proceeded to rip the clothes off of Edward and Edward do the same to her. Then, as if they knew he was watching, they smiled at the camera. Edward then threw Alice on to the counter top and slid his cock into her; her moans and screams could be heard clearly through the speakers. He didn’t know when he stood, but he found himself pacing back and forth behind the couch. Muttering to himself: “How could she do this to me? I thought she loved me? What did I do wrong to deserve this?”
Char started to fast forward through the two years of footage. Many times, the scene was the same but in a different room. The only room the two hadn’t touched was Jasper’s office but they couldn’t get in there – though, from the looks of it, they had tried.
Jasper was a mess by the time they got to the night he was arrested. He was sitting in front of Charlotte with his knees pulled up to his chest, breathing heavily, and tear streaks down his face. Charlotte was running her hands through his hair in a comforting manner. She had seen his mother do the same thing to Peter when he would get upset about something. It seems it works on both brothers.
They watched the night unfold though Jasper turned his head away; he didn’t need to see it again since he already lived it once. Once the video stopped, they all sat quietly, not knowing what to say. How do you tell someone your sorry for what has happened to them? Especially when you don’t know what it feels like to have been betrayed by two of the people you hold closest to you.
“Well, what do we do now?” Peter asked, breaking the silence.
“We get my life back to as normal as possible,” Jasper said standing up. “I won’t let her win. She can have Edward – I hope they are happy together. But I will tell you one thing: she won’t be living off my dime anymore. I hope he can afford her.”
“Right on, brother.”
“So, where do we start?” Charlotte asked.
“We start by getting that bitch’s shit out of my house and in the trash where it belongs.” Jasper was angry; you could see it in his eyes even though his posture seemed cool as a cucumber.
“When do ya wanna do that?” Peter asked.
Jasper turned and looked at Peter, “No time like the present!”
