Chapter 28: Back through the Looking Glass
Alice was pissed that Edward would hide the fact that he was married with children from her. Apparently they were far more alike then she thought. But now that was over. She had no one. Well for now at least. Alice took her card from her pocket and flipped it over in her hand a couple times. Perhaps if she attempted to change who she was Jasper would remember the love he had for her and would take her back. She decided that a visit was also due.
Alice had made her way to the local mall in Houston. She planned on a complete make over. Dying her black hair blond, and getting it styled perfectly, and purchasing a whole new wardrobe. Once that was finished she started making her way back to Dallas.
Alice entered the hospital her father worked at, and went directly to the nurses station. Heidi the head nurse looked up.
“How can I help you?”
“I’m looking for Jasper Whitlock’s room.”
“Are you family?”
“Yes, I’m his sister.”
“He is in room 714.”
“Thank you.”
Alice began walking back toward the elevators. No one seemed to notice her now that she looked different since she had made such a drastic change. Once Alice was outside his room she listened to see if anyone was with him, but it seemed that the room was empty. She walked in and saw how bad off Jasper was. She looked over the chart at the end of his bed quickly: a coma. What had Edward done? She took a seat next to Jasper, taking his hand in hers as she leaned over and whispered to him:
“Jasper, I know you don’t wanna hear from me right now and that you probably hate me but I want you to know I had nothing to do with this – it was all Edward. He was using me to get to your money. He’s married Jasper. Married! He has a beautiful wife and two lovely children. What the hell? I don’t understand! I’m sorry I hurt you and I want you to know that I will do everything in my power to get you back. I will earn your trust back and once again we’ll be together like we were meant to be. But I must go for now – I love you Jasper.” Alice kissed his cheek and disappeared from the room.

Jasper couldn’t believe that two faced bitch would have the nerve to show up here at the hospital. The staff all knew to keep her away from his room. How did she even get in there? Why would she even try to win him over after what she did to him? Jasper wished he could tell her to fuck off and get a life; to get out of his room and never come back. He was also hoping that someone would appear with some bleach and wipe that bitches germs off his face. Why today of all days did Esme have to come late?

As Alice drove away she knew it would take awhile to win Jasper back and that she had to prove to him that she loved him. But what could she do to prove it? Then the perfect idea popped into her head: Edward! She could kill two birds with one stone. She could get revenge for him lying to her all this time, and get payback for Jasper.

Esme was running late to visit Jasper this morning. She wasn’t worried about Jasper getting lonely because she was unsure if he even understood them. She pulled in the hospital’s parking lot, parked in the visitors section, and made her way to Jasper’s room. Once she entered the room she automatically knew something was wrong. Jasper’s blood pressure was up slightly from normal, his facial features looked agitated, but what stood out the most was the bright red lipstick mark on his cheek. Esme knew it wasn’t from any of his normal visitors, for none of the girls wore red lipstick. Isabella didn’t wear lipstick at all, only a slight gloss. Esme instantly ran to the bathroom to get a wash cloth to clean it off. The moment the wash cloth hit his face he seemed to relax.
“That’s better isn’t it Jasper, dear?” Esme spoke as she wiped his cheek off. Jasper sighed in response just like he does for Isabella.
“Who was in to see you Jasper? I didn’t know anyone else was scheduled to visit? Was it Isabella?”
Jasper sighed once again but his blood pressure stayed stable.
“No, not Isabella she doesn’t wear lipstick does she. What about Charlotte?”
Again a sigh. But no blood pressure spike.
“No, I didn’t think so either. Your Ma has never worn lipstick in her entire life so I know it wasn’t her. A nurse perhaps?”
A sigh fell once again from his lips but it seemed to Esme he frowned some also.
“Wrong again, huh? Well, who could it be? No one but those on the list are allowed to come see you and all the nurses know what Alice looks like so there is no way it was her.”
Jasper’s blood pressure spiked extremely high when Esme said Alice. Esme gasped.
“Jasper honey are you tryin to tell me that Alice was in here?”
His pressure spiked again and he sighed.
“So you are here with us! Oh Jasper, honey – that is a good sign! Who else have you shown this too? Isabella, I bet!”
Jasper sighed long and deep. Almost like the sound a baby makes as it finally falls into a peaceful slumber.
“Oh Jasper! You have it bad for her don’t ya? Never mind, I already know the answer to that. So I take it then you heard the whole conversation about good ol’ Edward then?”
Jasper’s pressure spiked slightly this time.
“Well that explains the monitor freak out that day. You must have been really pissed off hearing all that!”
Jasper sighed once again. He was getting tired of this one way conversation shit – he wanted to be awake. He wanted to tell them that Alice was in here. He wanted to ask the questions that were swirling around inside his head.
“How did Alice get in here?” Esme seemed to be asking herself. “Jasper, honey – you sit tight; I’ll be right back. I’m gonna have a talk with the nurse at the information desk downstairs.”
Jasper felt her leave the room and once again he was alone with his thoughts. Well, at least he and Esme could have some form of a conversation now. As long as she only asked yes or no questions. He could sigh for yes and spike his blood pressure for no, or vise versa.

Walking up to Heidi at the front desk Esme was determined to find out how Alice got in to Jasper’s room.
“Heidi, dear?”
“Oh hello Mrs. Cullen, what can I help you with today?”
“I would like a log of all the visitors that entered Mr. Whitlock’s room today.”
“I’ll get that for you right now.”
Esme watched as Heidi printed out a list of visitors.
“Here you are, Mrs. Cullen.”
Esme took the list and checked it over slowly. She noticed that Jasper’s Ma was in this morning like always, Carlisle checked on him twice and his sister was in…
“Heidi dear, it says here that Mr. Whitlock’s sister visited?”
“Yes Ma’am, she was here just before you came.”
“That can’t be right? Charlotte is working this morning, she won’t be out till later this afternoon.”
“Oh, Mrs. Cullen – No, it wasn’t Miss Charlotte.”
“Did you recognize this woman, Heidi? Could it have been my daughter, Alice?”
“No, Ma’am – this woman had shoulder-length blond hair.”
“Are you 100% sure that it was not my Alice?”
“I’m positive, Ma’am.”
“Thank you, Heidi.”
“Mrs. Cullen, if you like you could go see Frank at the security office. He would have the footage from the camera’s here at the desk so you could see for yourself and know for sure.” Heidi said.
“Thank you, Heidi.”
Esme left and headed back the corridor to where the security office was located. She knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer.
“Hello, how may I help you?” a tall man wearing a officers uniform asked.
“Are you Frank?”
“That’s the name – who may I ask, are you?”
“My name is Mrs. Cullen.”
“Oh, your the head doc’s wife?”
“Yes.”
“Well, what can I help ya with today?”
“I would like to see the security footage from the camera’s at the front desk, please.”
“What exactly are we looking for?”
“A young woman got back to see one of the patients and they claim to be someone they are not. I want to check and see if I can identify the person who entered his room.”
“Well let’s see what we can find shall we Ma’am?”
“Yes – thank you, very much.”
“It’s my job Ma’am – no thanks needed.”
Esme and Frank looked over the footage. It didn’t take long for them to find the young woman that proclaimed to be Jasper’s sister. Esme had Frank zoom in on the girl’s face: it was indeed Alice! No wonder nobody recognized her – she looked so different. Esme thanked Frank once again and – along with a newly printed picture of the new Alice – she headed back to Jasper’s room.
