The Differences Between Us Make Us Special

Chapter 29: Angels light up the darkness.

Jasper had been running for what felt like days; when in reality it had only been hours. He was racing through Iowa when his phone chimed, signaling he had a text.

Meeting you in 10 -P

The text didn’t help him any but he knew now that he wasn’t alone. Peter was coming to help. He wasn’t exactly sure why Peter needed to be there, but if he was coming he knew at some point he would need him.

Soon Peter and Charlotte were running beside him. It was silent until they entered into Illinois.

“Major you’re gonna need to brace yourself this isn’t gonna be pretty.”

“What do you know?”

“Only that your mate is in bad shape.”

“How bad Peter?”

“Bad enough that the Major will make an appearance.”

“OH”

They continued making their way to Chicago. It was overcast and raining when they entered the city.

“Isabella” Jasper whispered.

“What?” Charlotte asked.

Jasper rubbed at his chest again. The emotions of his mate were so strong here.

“This…this is Isabella.”

“Your mate is making it rain?” Peter asked. Confusion lacing his tone.

“Yes I believe so. The weather seems to be linking to her emotions.”

“Wow.” Charlotte whispered.

Just then Jasper dropped to his knees in pain. Isabella was hurting once again.

“Major?”

“Her pain…I can’t…” he didn’t know how to finish his sentence. All he knew was that he had to get to her.

“Let’s go Major. She needs you.”

He didn’t need any more words then that. He followed the pull of the pain and found themselves standing in front of an orphanage. Jasper already knew the whole story but Peter didn’t.

“Major why are we here?”

“Isabella is inside. This is her home.”

“You mean she is an orphan?”

“Yes and no… I will explain after I see her.”

“Okay Major let’s go.”

Jasper walked up to the door. Ringing the doorbell gently. They heard a faint voice from within calling them to come in. When they entered Jasper once again fell to his knees. Her pain and scent were everywhere here. On the walls, the doors, the floors. It was like she was embedded into the building itself. He only looked up when they heard footsteps coming toward them. There standing before them was a tall redheaded woman with sad morning eyes. Jasper was sure this was the Vicky that Edward told him about.

(E&B)

Vicky heard the doorbell ring as she sat speaking with Isabella. She told her it wouldn’t be much longer and help would be here.

Edward had once explained that he and Isabella were very different. He couldn’t tell her why or what made them so different but she understood none the less. He went on to explain soul mates to her, the same way Carlisle had explained it to them. That everyone had a soul mate. Someone that was made to be their perfect other half. If that person was to meet their soul mate then it would be like walking in heaven every day for the rest of their lives. So in turn they started referring to them as angels. Only an angel could save the soul of their other half if they became lost to this world. So When Edward had said that Isabella’s angel was on his way she knew that soon their Isabella would be returning to them.

She called for whoever it was to enter. When she walked down to meet them she didn’t expect to see what she saw. There kneeling on the floor was just that…and angel. The man was beautiful, but he also looked broken. Like he was feeling the most horrible pain one can imagine. As he looked up to meet her eyes she saw it there as well. He was hurting for Isabella. This man had to be her angel.

“Hello. I’m Victoria. But you may call me Vicky.”

Peter decided he would speak up for Jasper seeing as how he could barely stand.

“I am Peter, this is my wife Charlotte and my brother Jasper.”

“Jasper? As in Jasper W. Whitlock?”

“Yes Ma’am”

“Oh thank god you have arrived.”

Peter looked confused. Seeing this confusion Vicky went on to explain the events that had taken place so far.

“Yesterday started like every other. The doctor came to see Isabella, even though I’m sure there is absolutely nothing he can do for her. Then I cleaned and cooked, but once again she was still unresponsive. So I thought I would try reading to her. I grabbed a fist full of letters off the end of her bed. She hadn’t been reading or writing for weeks. Several hours had passed and the final letter I read was from one Jasper W. Whitlock, post marked Forks, Washington. When I got up to leave she whimpered.”

“What time was this?”

“I’d say early evening yesterday.”

“Edward.”

“What about Edward?” Vicky asked.

“He dropped to his knees in the living room saying he could hear her screams in his head. It doubled me over in pain.” Jasper whispered.

“He heard her? So she is still in there. She is fighting to come back. But where is Edward? Didn’t he come with you?”

“No I came alone.”

“He should be here!” Vicky cried.

“He told me to tell her he loves her and that I should tell you “Angel”.”

“Yes I know who you are. I spoke with them several hours ago. He told me her angel was coming and that I should be expecting you. But he never said about others, just you.”

“This is my brother and his wife. They met up with me in Iowa. They figured I would need their help.”

“Their help…why?”

“How much do you know about Edward and Isabella?”

“Enough to know that something’s need to be left unsaid and that it’s best if I not ask to many questions.”

“Edward is a smart one.”

“Yes now are you gonna help Isabella or not?”

“I’m gonna do my best. Where is she?”

“Follow me.”

Peter and Charlotte helped Jasper up and toward the stairs. They followed Vicky to the top most room in the building. It was set up like a suite in a hotel. A small sitting room with two rooms branching off and a bathroom. Once they fully entered the room Jaspers knees gave out again. The only thing holding him up was Peter and Charlotte. Vicky noticed this and asked:

“Are you sure you can do this?”

“Yes. Her pain is unbearable. I don’t know how she is still living.” Jasper gasped out.

“Are you special like they are?”

“Yes.”

“How so?”

“I’m an empath. I can feel the emotions of others. Isabella’s more than most. Even from states away I could feel her. But this close I feel for the first time in my life that I could actually die.”

“Is she gonna be okay?”

“I don’t know? Please take me to her.”

“Through here.”

Vicky led them into a small but comfortable room. There was stacks of mail on the floor by the end of the bed, books littered every available surface and his letter sat unfolded on the bookshelf closest to the bed.

“You said you read my letter to her and she responded.”

“Yes.”

“Leave us please.”

Peter placed Jasper on the chair by Isabella’s bed. Then Vicky, Peter and Charlotte closed the door and went to sit outside the room.

(E&B)

Jasper braced himself against the onslaught of her emotions. Taking her hand in his, the tingle that shot through him warmed him. The bond became stronger. He decided to speak to her.

“Isabella. It’s Jasper Darlin’. I’ve come to see ya. I spoke with Edward yesterday. He told me all about ya fight, and what happened. He is truly sorry for what he did. He felt and heard ya Isabella. Heard ya cries for help. He sent me to help ya. To bring ya back to us. I have missed ya Isabella. Ya letters, ya words, ya voice. I feel ya pain my Isabella. I know ya are in there somewhere. Ya need to fight, fight for ya self, for Vicky, for Edward, the Masen’s, for Carlisle and Esme, Emmett and Rose, even Alice and Alec; even though ya have yet to meet them ya mean something to them. For ME Isabella, ya must fight to come back to me. I miss ya my angel.”

(E&B)

Isabella could feel when someone entered her room. Usually it was Vicky or the doctor but this was different. The atmosphere lightened. She could barely make out their voices as they spoke but she knew there was at least four of them. Soon the chatter quieted and only one presence was left in the room. This one seemed brighter than the others.

When they took her hand a tingle ran through her body. It was the first real sensation she had felt in weeks. Then the most enchanting voice reached her ears. Jasper. There was that name again. The questions swirled once again. The same as always. Who was this Jasper and what did he mean to her. Her memory tried to conjure a face but was unable to. The voice however played on repeat; like a broken record. Conversations on the phone. She listened harder to the familiar voice. She heard him say that he spoke with Edward. That Edward was sorry, that he sent him to help her. This Jasper said that he had missed her. Her letters, their phone conversations. He felt her pain? How? How could he feel her pain? He told her she needed to fight. Fight to come back to her family, her friends…to him. He said she needed to fight to come back to him…then he called her Angel. His Angel…that sounded familiar.

Edward, Carlisle… Esmé…they had spoken of Angels…no not angels, soul mates. Soul mates…the perfect match…your missing piece…souls…angels…mates…it all swirled around in her head. Then it all seemed to click. The Cullen’s, vampire’s, gifts, family, missing children, Alice, Jasper, mates, searching, Alec, friends, letters, phone calls, pranks, Emmett, cars, Rose, hospital visits, Carlisle, cookies, Esmé…Jasper…Jasper…Jasper…pen pal, friend, soul mate, angel…he felt her pain. She gasped.

“Isabella?”

She heard him. She could feel him.

“Jasper” she thought.

“Isabella did you just speak to me?”

“You can hear me?”

“Yes Isabella, as clear as if ya were speaking clearly to me.”

“we have a link?”

“A link?”

“Yes one similar to what Edward and I used to have.” her inner voice seemed sad.

“Ya still have it Darlin ya just need to work a little harder then before.”

“How?”

“He heard ya scream. Both times. That’s how I knew to come to ya.”

“He heard me?”

“As clearly as I felt ya.”

“Felt?”

“Ya know I’m an empathy, right, Darlin’?”

“Yes but we were so far away. How is it possible?”

“As ya mate I can feel ya thousands of miles away.”

“You’re my angel?”

“Yes Isabella. I’m your angel. What is with that anyway?”

“It was how we explained things to Vicky. We couldn’t go into the whole vampires have mates, shifters have imprints, now could we? She would be in danger if we did.”

“Right ya are Darlin’. Are ya ready to wake up from this yet?”

“I’m tryin Jasper I really am. I feel so lost in here. It’s dark and I’m scared.”

“I’m here with ya now, ya have no reason to be scared. I’m not goin anywhere.”

“I’m so tired Jasper…It’s so hard to fight the darkness…” her voice started to trail off.

“Isabella ya stay with me now. Don’t ya let go.”

“I’m sorry Jasper. I’m so tired.”

“Isabella…”

(E&B)

Jasper was surprised at first when he heard her voice in his head. But it was a relief to know that she was in there somewhere. That he could reach her. However the connection was fading fast. He could feel her getting weaker. When the link vanished he cried out in pain. He thought he had lost her. Even though he could still feel her heart beat, hear her breathing, sense her emotions, he felt lost. It was then that the shift happened.

The Major was broken. His mate was hurt. His mate was gone. He would never be complete. When the door swung open he growled viciously at the intruder. He didn’t care who it was, they were to come nowhere close to his mate. He would kill anyone who tried to touch her.

“Major you must come with me now.”

ggggrrrrrrr

“It’s important that you come with me now.”

Once again the Major growled. Peter was having none of it. Knowing that Jasper was weakened due to his emotional connection with his mate he simply grabbed hold of him and tossed him over his shoulder; earning him another bite mark to his torso. He hissed but continued to remove him from the room.

Once outside Peter made his way to the nearest wooded area and took off into the trees. About two miles out he unceremoniously dropped the Major right on his ass. The Major growled again. His eyes were so black that Peter was sure that they would take hours to return to the gold they once were.

Peter took off leaving the Major where he dropped him to fetch him something fuzzy to eat. Peter shivered at the thought but quickly caught a few deer and brought them back to the Major.

After the Major had fed, Peter soon found himself pinned to a tree.

“How dare you remove me from my mate?”

“Major you needed to feed and she needed to rest.”

Suddenly the Major was on his knees. It all came rushing back. He had lost her. She fell into the darkness of her mind and she wasn’t coming back.

“Major she’s coming back.”

“No I lost her.”

“No Major. She will come back, she was just exhausted, it took a lot out of her to keep that connection with you that long.”

Peter watched as the black faded and the gold slowly returned. Then for the first time ever Peter saw something he never thought he would see. The famous god of war, Ares, the devil himself, curled into a ball and cried.
