Dream Lover

Chapter 02:
Bella and Edward had been married for just over three years. She had noticed the changes as soon as they started happening. Edward started to pull away from her. His residency at the hospital kept him late and he often worked doubles. Her job at the design studio was slow. So to fight off the loneliness Bella began taking night classes at a culinary school close to their home. She had always enjoyed cooking and found that she loved to experiment and try different things. Cooking calmed her. It was her escape.
On one such lonely night Bella was coming home from her class, when she looked up she noticed Edwards’s car in the driveway. Her excitement flared. It had been months since they had been alone at night. The thought of making love to her husband again sent flashes of heat through her body. Rushing through the front door she found him finishing off some leftovers she had made the night before. Looking up at her as he stood from the table he smiled.
“That was delicious Bella. Your classes are really paying off.”
“That they are. I enjoy them.”
“I’m glad you have found something that can take your mind off being here alone.”
“Are you home for the night?”
“Till noon tomorrow, then i have a double. I’m covering for another doctor who has gone on vacation.”
A smile slid across Bella’s lips as she stalked toward her husband. Once she reached him, she wrapped her arms around his waist.
“Bella, what are you doing?”
“Showing my husband how much i missed him.” she said as she began to trail kisses down his neck.
“Not tonight Bella. I’m too tired.” he said removing her from him and heading toward the bedroom.
That’s how it was every time. He was always too tired or had to work. They hadn’t made love to one another in over a year. She felt more like his roommate now then his wife, the only difference was they slept in the same bed.
Bella’s shoulders sagged as she watched his form disappear behind the closed door. Going to the living room she sat down on the couch and started watching some old western that was playing on tv. Pulling her latest creation out of her bag that sat next to her, she ate her supper. Once finished she laid on the couch to finish watching the love story set in the old west finish out. She watched as the cowboy fought with the kidnappers, who by chance took the woman he was secretly pining over. As in all love stories the damsel in distress is rescued by her prince and swept off into the sunset.
Bella was starting to believe that true love didn’t exist. That fairytales were in fact just stories made up to give young girls something to dream about. Some goal to aim for. A standard to set. It was all just some sick joke that the parents of the young girls played on them to see if they could keep their daughters pure until what they deemed a proper age for them to date and find said prince. And only after said prince proved his worth to the evil dictators would they allow the Princess to ride off into the sunset with her prince.
Bella realized now that her prince wasn’t a prince at all. He pretended to be a knight in shining armor on a gallant steed, when in fact he was nothing but a boy wearing tatter clothing and his steed was nothing but a mule. How could she have been so blind? Would she ever know true love? Cause surely what she had now was not it.
These were the thoughts rolling around in her mind as she drifted off to sleep on the couch in front of the tv as yet another western romance flick started on the screen. This would be the first night she slept somewhere other than their bed. It was also the first night she dreamt of him…
