She’s So Gone

Chapter 03:

On the plane ride there Isabella thought a lot about what happened to her and decided her mom had the right idea, she needed to change.

When her plane landed in Dallas she had a plan set in her mind. She spoke to her dad on the ride to his house about what happened back in phoenix and told him what she had in mind. He said that he would stand behind her completely and if she felt that was what she had to do, then she should go for it. So a week after settling in, she set her plan into action.

Isabella’s first step was to change her name; dropping the Isabella to replace it with Izzy and returning to her real fathers last name. So after a phone call and some never ending paper work, Isabella Dwyer was no more. In her place now stood Izzy Swan.

Next on her list was a trip to the hair dresser. She said good bye to her waist length locks and opted for a shorter shoulder length style, to which she had dyed a dark chestnut and added blond highlights.

A stop at the nearest mall for a change in wardrobe came next; going from baggy sweat pants and jeans, to hip huggers and boot cut. Thick bulky sweat shirts and long sleeved tops, to curve hugging t-shirts and button downs. Clumpy boots to sneakers and heels.

It only took her 24 hours to create a new her. Now for the upkeep. Izzy started exercising more, running with her dad every morning; moderate stretching and lifting weights in the basement of their home. She began to notice her body slimming more and toning up.

But Izzy became bored quickly during the day. There was nothing for her to do while her father was at work, so she made a trip to the community center in town on her bike. There, she signed up for a guitar class to fine tune her mad skills. Still having too much time, she also signed up for a song writing class as well.

Summer seemed to fly by quickly now that she had gotten herself into a routine. She started every morning exercising with her dad, then went to classes during the day. Every night she ate supper with Charlie as they settled in to watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.

One night out of boredom they decided to make a game of it. They would try to answer the question or solve the puzzle before the contestants on the screen; for each correct answer or puzzle solved they would collect points. The loser would have to cook and clean up supper the following night. It was as if they were best friends or roommates; not father and daughter.

Having so much fun they lost track of the days and soon it was almost time for Izzy to go back home to her mother. After several long conversations they decided to call Renee and ask if it would be okay if she stayed till she graduated. After all the kinks were worked out, Izzy was staying.

A week and a half before the semester started Charlie and Izzy went to get her the things she would need, and register her for classes. The school was amazing, so after filling out the paper work they were led on a tour. Stepping out of the main office building they were led around the side and onto a pathway that snaked between the many buildings.

The boy taking them on the tour was overly friendly. He explained that the school was set up more like a college campus then a high school. There was a large quad settled in the middle where there were tables and things like that to eat lunch on, since there was not a formal cafeteria here. A Japanese water garden was set up in the grove of trees in the middle of it all. It was all very new age Zen. Leading them to the first building where they had a clear view of the area. Charlie cleared his throat to bring the boy back on topic as Izzy chuckled. He gave a rundown of all the buildings quickly:

Building 1: The Hall of Science
Building 2: The Math department
Building 3: English or Literary Arts
Building 4: History
Building 5: Auditorium or Lecture Hall
Building 6: The Arts building

He went on to tell them that behind building 4 was the sports fields and pool. Student parking was behind buildings 5 and 6, and visitor and staff parking was in front of the main office that they had just left. When Izzy asked about a library, the boy told her that it was on the second and third floors of the main office, as well as a computer cafe’ on the top floor. After a quick walk around the campus they headed back to the main office. Izzy was told that her class schedule would be mailed to her and she should receive it before the start of term. They kindly thanked the boy and receptionist and made their way home, where it was Charlie’s turn to cook dinner.
