She’s So Gone

Chapter 21:

Jasper watched as Alice and Izzy talked like they were friends. He wasn’t to sure if that is what was really going on or if Alice was being spitful. He has seen it before with Alice when someone tried to weasel their way into the group. They have all been close since grade school and were damn near inseperable throughout the years.

Rose leaving them alone at the table could be a good sign or a bad one, he wasn’t sure, so he watched. When Alice started coming back over Rose met her half-way and hugged her. Maybe this was a good thing.

“What was that all about?” Emmett asked.

“Nothing just something us girls needed to work out.” Alice said.

“Alice?” Edward asked.

“Seriously it was nothing you all need to get worked up about. I just had to talk to Izzy about somethings. It’s all cleared up now so let it go.” Alice told them as she slid into her seat next to Edward.

“Alright if you say so.” Emmett said.

Jasper just sat and watched. He kept glancing over to see Rose and Izzy in what seemed like deep conversation. Every now and then Rose would look over and smile at him but that could mean just about anything.

“So how did your talk with Alice go?” Rose asked.

“It was fine. She apologized for being a bitch and explained to me why she was acting that way. So Edward was really putting things in her locker?”

“Yeah. Edward dispite what others may think is really shy. He has had his sights set on Alice for as long as I can remember.”

“So what’s this guy code thing that she was talking about?”

“You don’t know about it either?”

“No…how do you know?”

“I wasn’t always a girlly girl. I used to be like one of the guys, so of course they let me in on some of their inner workings. The guy code being one of them.”

“Tell me about it?” Izzy asked unsure if she really wanted to know.

“Okay but just the basics. I don’t wanna overstep my  bounds with the guys. If they knew i was letting all their secrets out they wouldn’t talk to me anymore.”

“Okay. Just the basics.”

“Well there is the girlfriend thing. They have three major rules that they all follow whether they are friends or not. 1. Never go after a girl that you know your friend or bro is hooked on. 2. never date a bros ex-girlfriend. 3. Never under any circumstances let anything bad happen to your bros girlfriend whether he is present at the time or not.”

“So let me get this straight. If Emmett likes say you. Then your off limits to anyone who knows or is friends with Emmett.”

“Exactly.”

“And if Emmett were to break up with you, niether of them would go after you.”

“Yeah.”

“Why?”

“I think it would make the friendship strained. They are really close like brothers so it would seem ackward.”

“Okay and the last one i understand. If you guys all went out somewhere like a party or public place, even if Emmett was there or not it would be Jasper and Edwards place to make sure that no harm come to you. Whether by your own hand or someone else’s.”

“You catch on quickly.”

“It’s a talent.” the girls giggled.

“So you and Alice, are okay?”

“It’s a work in progress. I won’t say that I’m gonna spill my whole life story to her, but I think I would like to get to know her better. Become friends or what not.”

“Good. That makes things easier. The other thing Alice was worried about was that you were stealing me away.”

“Why would she think that?”

“Do you remember that day that we fought and we came to sit over here?”

“Vaguely.”

“Well Alice and I used to spend alot of time together. We are friends but in a different compacity then I am with her. She’s all shopping and gossip and make-up, where you are more down to earth, music and cars and sports. Things Alice wouldn’t dream of talking about.”

“Oh..”

“Yeah so I explained that to her. She asked me about you but I told her it wasn’t my story to tell and that when you were comfortable enough you would tell them.”

“Yeah about that…I think Jasper knows something. I don’t know what he knows but i have a feeling he suspects something isn’t right. Ever since the showcase and Zavier showing up, things have seemed weird with him. He keeps watching me.”

“He’s worried. You should have heard him on sunday at practice. I think he threw them all for a loop.”

“How so?”

“Well Alice asked about the whole Izzy/Bella thing. You know about how he could think that you were this Bella person. Emmett said that everyone has a twin and you could resemble her. When they asked me i told them that it’s possible, the cafe’ was dark and he could make an honest mistake. When they asked Jasper he flipped.  He said that Zavier was an ass and that he hopes that Bella is off with some guy living happily and not wholed up somewhere dwelling on the negative. He asked what we would feel if something like that happen to us. He said that women should be treated with respect and not used as toys. I swear i heard him growl in there somewhere and then hiss. He was pissed that someone would treat someone else that way.”

Izzy was stunned. She just stared at Rose for a few minutes before taking a quick glance out of the corner of her eye to see Jasper still watching them.

“Izzy you there?” Rose asked waving a hand in front of her face.

“Yeah just stunned is all.”

“Well you shouldn’t be. Jasper was raised to be a gentleman no matter what face he puts on for the masses. He told me that if he ever let something like that happen to someone he knew ecspecially a girl, his ma and grandma would rip him a new one.”

“Wow really.”

“Yeah Izzy. The Jasper that everyone else sees isn’t the real Jasper. It’s a show he puts on to protect himself. He acts all cool and confident to hide that he is really shy and pensive. I have seen the real Jasper, not many have, but  those who do understand why he is the way he is.”

“Why?”

“You’ll have to ask him.”

“I may just do that.”

“You like him don’t you?” Rose asked quirking her brow.

“I think I do. It’s weird though.”

“How so?”

“It’s like he can see me. The real me and not the one I put together for everyone else. He can see the person underneath. The one that was hurt, and is scared. But he would never tell anyone. I can feel when he’s looking at me. It’s like a warmth that spreads through me. Like now I can feel his eyes on me. Watching to make sure i don’t break or fall.”

Rose glanced over and smiled when she met Jasper’s eyes. He smirked at her and turned back to the conversation that Alice, Edward and Emmett seemed to be immersed in.

“Yeah your right. So you didn’t really answer my question.”

“What question?”

“Do you like him?”

“Yeah Rose i guess i do.”

Rose squealed like a young girl. Izzy was staring at her like she lost her mind.

“What has gotten into you Rose?” Izzy asked.

“Oh my god. This is so perfect.”

“What’s perfect?” Izzy was confused now.

“Oh nothing, nevermind.” Rose said looking pensive.

Izzy quirked a brow but let it go. Whatever was going on in Rose’s head she wasn’t ready to let anyone else know. Izzy was getting a sneaky feeling that Rose was gonna try and set her and Jasper up.

“Hey. What are you doing tonight?” Rose asked out of nowhere.

“I have to work till eight but then I’m free why?”

“How would you like to meet up with us for pizza after you get off?”

“That sounds good. Where?”

“Ricky’s. We play there on the weekends and we finish up around 11. We get break at 9 so we’d be able to eat together and hang out. You would have more time to get to know the other guys without being completely paranoid about having to go on stage, like at the showcase. I know Emmett and Edward would love it.”

“I guess. I’ll talk to dad when i get home and see if it’s alright. I doubt he would say no.”

“Great. I’ll let everyone know and then we will see you around 9.”

“Yeah.”

“Okay well I’m gonna go let everyone know and I’ll meet you in class.”

“Alright see you.”

Izzy laughed as Rose bolted up out of her seat and over to the table where everyone was sitting. Izzy stood and grabbed her things. As she was turning to head toward her next class she could feel his eyes on her again. Izzy turned her head to meet his gaze. He smiled and winked at her. She smiled and ducked her head as she felt the blush creep up her cheeks. What did she just get herself into?
