The Bodyguard

Chapter 25:
The following events take place between 5 PM and whenever we decide to end it. (I guess if 24 can do that on the last episode everybody else can)
Bella POV
I woke up feeling groggy. Very groggy. I was in a very uncomfortable wooden chair with no arms. I didn’t think there were arms anyway. Mine were wrenched by the very tight ropes binding my wrists behind my back.
In front of me was a man.
An Asian guy. He was smiling. Seemed like a nice enough kidnapper. I tried to feel his presence. Nothing.
I tried to scan my body.
I couldn’t. I could barely feel my hands.
“Who are you?” I croaked out, shocked to hear how raspy my voice was.
“Yeng Zhu. You are Bella Swan?”
“I certainly hope so. It would suck for a girl if this happened to her by accident. Why have you drugged and kidnapped me? I have a wedding rehearsal to be at.”
“Ms. Swan I am afraid that your wedding will not happen. You are going to be doing a great service to the world. You will be accompanying me to China where the human race can benefit from the knowledge and study of what goes on inside your beautiful head. As to why I drugged you, I think you know that.”
“I’m pregnant. You can’t…”
“I can and did. You see I am under orders to bring your wonderful brain to my home. In a best case scenario that extraordinary head of yours will be attached on your very live shoulders. However should the worst case occur I will simply cut your head from your shoulders and let our doctors play around with the grey matter in your skull.
So in an effort to keep you alive we are going to keep dosing you with a new wonderful drug that will not harm your precious child growing inside you and keep all of us safe. If you behave we all have a nice trip. If you do not I cut off your head and carry it to China in a duffel bag. Do we understand?”
“Are you stupid? Do you know who my fiancée is?” I asked, trying that card. I had a sinking feeling though that this guy knew everything about me.
“You can do better than that. Of course I know who your fiancée is. Yet here we are. I have no idea why your government has not studied you, had you locked away. Perhaps they can’t. But I can. I promise you this Bella. You do not want to… how would you say it… fuck with me.”
“You have no idea do you?”
“An idea of what?”
“Who is coming after me? Who is standing at my man’s side at my wedding?”
“Who would that be dear?”
“Jason Connolly.”
“Sorry. Never heard of him.” He said with an ignorant grin I’m sure he thought was cute.
“That’s because he never leaves anyone alive. He won’t let you get away. The best thing you could do is to let me go and just leave. Leave quickly. It’s the only chance you have. I promise you, I am getting married tomorrow. If you leave me now you may be alive and on your way home while I am doing it.”
“Bella I’m afraid without the little peculiarities of your brain that make you special, you really aren’t much of a threat.”
“You think I need whatever it is my brain can do to take you? You really have no idea who you are fucking with. Plenty of monsters have wanted me dead and I’m still here. I will outlive you too.”
“Monsters? Vampires? Aliens? Shape shifters? Don’t look so surprised. Your arrogant government is not the only one who has knowledge of these creatures. Our nation is ancient. Your nation is a newborn on the scale of human history. I am going to leave you here with Dr. Xien. He is a nice man and if you don’t move he will dose you at regular intervals, keeping all of us, your child included, safe. If not… it doesn’t matter. You will behave.”
“Where are we?”
“Just a place to stay for a bit while we await our transportation to China. Things did not go as smoothly as I had hoped. Unfortunately instead of riding back to Beijing inside a private jet we will have to take a different route. Nothing for you to worry about.”
He patted me on the cheek, said something to the good doctor and walked out, not locking the door behind him.
Four weeks ago I spent the weekend learning Chinese, Cantonese, Japanese and Arabic. I had learned French and Italian the day before. I may be drugged but my memories were fine. I knew what he told the doctor.
Shoot her if he sees the smallest strange thing.
He was afraid of me. He was right to be.
The doctor approached me with a syringe.
“Ten minutes.” he said in Chinese.
“Do you really know about vampires?” I asked him in Chinese. This seemed to surprise him but he smiled at least.
“Yes. I have studied them and stranger creatures. It is what I do for my people.”
“I can tell you a secret about vampires. One I bet you don’t know.” I told him continuing in my quiet Chinese dialect.
“What would that be dear?”
I whispered so lowly he couldn’t possibly hear me.
“What was that?”
I whispered again.
He moved closer and I motioned to whisper in his ear. Leaning his ear to hear me better I struck.
My mouth clamped onto his neck and I kneed him in the groin. We tumbled to the ground, my teeth embedded in his neck. I felt it and bit down harder.
Tearing my mouth back I was rewarded with a spray of blood covering my face and the taste in my mouth. It was bright red. I got his carotid artery.
He looked up and I shuffled my feet enough to position myself next to his head. I kneed him in the jaw. He passed out and I lay next to him as I saw his blood slowly stop spurting and the life go from his eyes.
“I said the first rule of vampire combat is protect your throat, fucker.” I told him then spit out his blood.
Shuffling in his pockets I found what I was looking for. A pocket knife.
A few seconds later my hands were free. I rubbed them to get the blood flowing again. Grabbing the gun from the counter I recognized it as Glock .40. I could handle that.
I appeared to be in some sort of parlor room. It was pretty nice. I saw a makeup counter and made the mistake of looking into it. I had worn a simple pair of denim jeans and a white Rockets t shirt. My face, throat and t shirt were covered with blood.
Yuck.
Okay Bella. He was supposed to dose you in ten minutes. That would have been about 5 minutes ago. Wait five minutes and see what we can do?
Nope. I needed to get away from these guys. I looked at the door that the head guy walked out of. It remained closed and I didn’t hear anything. But he walked that way. Another door across the room looked more appealing. Time to find out where I was.
Ty POV
Connolly pulled into an underground parking garage. Parking in front of a non descript door a part of me wondered if we were taking a train trip.
He hit a button and looked into a security camera over the door.
“I’ll get her back Ty. I promise.”
“I know brotha. I got faith in you.” I told him wondering why the fuck he is bringing this up now. I hope he doesn’t need to make himself any more confident.
“No Ty. You don’t understand. You can go. Go take care of your family. Calm you and Bella’s moms. Get that rehearsal going because Bella is going to be there. Ty I gotta be honest with you. You come with me, your gonna see some things you ain’t seen yet. You may not want to.”
“What you talkin bout Jay?”
“Ty I know you are brave as hell. We have fought vampires together. I trust you with my life. But Ty people are gonna die and I plan to kill them. You may well have to kill people if you come with me. That’s a line you may not want to cross.”
“If my woman is on the other side of that line that’s the line I’m runnin over.” I told him. He nodded and the door opened.
We walked down a lonely hall and another door opened in front of us held by some white guys in snappy suits. I saw Leah and Charlie there.
“Charlie?” I asked, a bit surprised Leah would bring him.
“He insisted.” Leah explained, rolling her eyes.
“Where the hell are we?” I asked.
“FBI blacksite. I’m Agent Turner, Special agent in charge of this station. I understand you are Agent Connolly? What department are you with and why is Tyrone Gavin here?”
“Agent Turner?”
“Yes.”
“You received security validations for myself and agent Clearwater from Chloe O’Brian correct?”
“Yes sir.”
“Those validations require you to hand over control of your station to me and not ask questions. All coms will go through Chloe. You do what I say or what she says I tell you to do. You do not ask questions. At all. I tell you to get someone you get them. I need a team you have them loaded for war. We understand each other?”
“Perfectly.” Agent Turner said dejectedly. I guess he wasn’t feelin so special right now.
“Leah did you get him?”
“He’s in holding 1.” She told him.
“Get who?”
“The guy who ratted Bella out.” Charlie said. He was pissed. Connolly was taking off his… shirt?
“Man we ain’t got time for you to be…” I tried to say havin a booty call until an agent brought him a black shirt and black bullet proof vest. He also handed him two handguns and two extra clips.
“I need gear for Ty as well.”
“What about me?” Charlie asked.
“You and Leah are going back and making sure that no one tries to kidnap anyone else in the family as soon as I am done with Leah.” He said mysteriously. I hope he didn’t plan to fuck her. We really didn’t have time for that. I don’t give a damn if it makes him a better killer.
“I’m not sure we have gear that will fit Mr. Gavin. Also he is a civli…”
“Turner do as you are fucking told! Leah has anyone questioned this guy?”
“Nope.”
“He hasn’t been read his rights.” An agent mentioned.
“He lost his rights when he agreed to work for the US government 16 years ago. That’s also when he got that second chip he didn’t know about. Where was he Leah?”
“At a private airport in Clearlake. Had his briefcase. It’s in the room. Everything he has on… everything.”
“Good. Charlie you stay out here and make sure nobody bothers us. Turner keep your people back no matter how many screams you hear. You can question the salon owner if you wish. I doubt she will give you anything I don’t already know.”
“Is this legal?” Turner asked.
Connolly walked up to him.
“Do I need to fucking kill you now?”
Turner flinched.
“No… sir.”
“Good. Stay back.”
I followed Leah and Connolly down another hall. He told me to stand by some glass and I could watch. I really wanted to go in though when I saw him. I recognized that fucker immediately. He was the one who blasted my boo with all that shit.
Once the door was closed Leah took her clothes off to the surprise of the man in the room. I was a bit surprised myself.
Then she shifted.
The guy pissed his pants. He was sittin in a chair not restrained at all. He was just like I remembered him. Not very tall, kinda chubby with thinning hair and glasses.
“How you doin McClaire?” Jay asked while taking a chair in front of him and Leah paced behind him growling. I suppose the show was about to start.
Connolly POV
“You are going to kill me anyway. Just get on with it.” He told me. He tried to be brave. Hard to do that when you just pissed your pants.
“Where is she?”
“China I hope.”
“Why?”
“Because you see! You know! You know what the human race is up against. Not just from the Universe. From our own planet. It’s ridiculous that Garrett wasn’t killed the moment we figured out how to kill vampires. Now we have more? Then there is Bella Swan. A human who can not only absorb vampire powers but is becoming something the human race has never seen. Her mind is amazing. She has surpassed simple vampire powers. Do you know what this means? She is the next step in the course of human evolution. The secret of how her brain has evolved would allow all of us to achieve a higher power. A higher plane of existence. The ability to defend ourselves from the monsters of the world and the universe without having to rely on vampires. Our government had that and decided the privacy of one person was more important than the greater good. So I found a nation more open minded.”
I knew when Bella was taken it had to be an inside leak. I gave Chloe level black access. All employees of Area 52 have trackers imbedded under their skin. My team had them as well. The employees of Area 52 didn’t know about the second ones imbedded behind the thigh. Chloe found everybody was where they were supposed to be except this guy. Picking him up at the private airport was easy.
“They were never going to take you to Beijing. They would have taken what you had and then killed you.”
“They want to help me save humanity from our enemies. This isn’t about nations. Not anymore. When the aliens invade it will be about all of us. We will all be victims. There will be no more us versus them.”
“They want to figure out what you did to her and weaponize it. The tragedy is that you don’t even know what you did.” I pointed out.
“Because Rodriguez wouldn’t let me! The damn President of the United States! Some fucking politician?! He makes the decisions that affect mankind? Fuck you Connolly. You should be ashamed of yourself. Fucking that wolf behind you. We all know. She should be studied as well.”
I pulled a knife from behind my back. A simple silver K Bar knife.
“You know what your problem is McClaire?”
“What’s that Connolly?” he asked quietly, eyes never leaving my knife.
“You have been around vampires and demons and aliens for so long you have forgotten who the real monster is. You forgot who I am.”
I grabbed him by his jaw and slammed him back onto the floor.
Then I ripped his shirt open.
“I want to know where she is. I know they planned on killing you. They were going to blow up the salon, make it look like she was dead and while everyone was mourning the Chinese planned to fly her out smooth as shit right? Only the salon didn’t blow up and I got every eye in the sky looking for them. So tell me what you think. Tell me where they have her. Something tells me you know.”
I punctured his skin with my blade just above his third intercostal rib. Then I scraped the blade along the bone.
He screamed but I wouldn’t let him up.
“Hurts like a bitch doesn’t it? I got stabbed once in the ribs. Blade hit a bone and I swore it hurt worse than the stab wound itself. Where is she McClaire? Your friends have left you. I know they wanted your information before they killed you. They probably gave you a back up spot right? Someplace they told you to go if they didn’t make the airport? Where?”
He said nothing.
“Hey Leah? You want a bite?” I sliced a 6 inch piece of flesh away from his ribs and held it up. She walked forward and sniffed it.
“I haven’t fed her today. You’re going to die anyway right? You don’t mind.”
He said nothing. Just lay there whimpering.
“Listen George. You know me. You know my story. You are one of the few who do. You know what I will do. I am about to start seriously cutting you. Cutting things off of you that you are going to miss for the remainder of your very short life. I’m going to make you feel more pain than anyone else has ever felt before dying. You believe me right?”
Despite crying, McClaire nodded his head.
“George, you got five seconds and four have gone.” I pressed the knife into the other side of his body hoping to scrape some fresh skin off a rib.
Leah growled inches from his face.
“They told me… they told me. You can’t get her. I was supposed to take my information to the one place not even you can go. That must be where she is.”
“Where would that be George?”
“The Embassy. The Chinese Embassy. The one place in Houston you can’t go. I was supposed to meet a man named Bai Ching. I give him the information and he gets me to China. That must be where they have her.”
Fuck.
“You got off easy.”
“No! Don’t! Don’t kill me! I can help you. I can go inside and… and…”
“Yeah.” I told him. They wouldn’t let him past the gate. I stabbed him in the stomach six times and once in the heart.
Fucking traitor.
“Chloe?”
“Yeah?”
“I need you to get the President on the line. Tell him it’s Connolly and I’m about to invade China.”
“Standbye. He may have some questions I’m guessing.” She told me in her normal calm tone.
“Also notify the Secretary of the Navy and let him know there is most likely a Chinese sub in the Gulf of Mexico probably within twenty miles or so off the coast of Texas.”
“You know that for sure is? Is this one of those black level operatives telling you this? The vampire that knows things? Or maybe the freak who was married to the chick who can see the future? Or some demon…”
“Chloe?”
“Yeah.” I heard her sigh.
“Just because you have new clearance doesn’t mean you need to go over everything now. We have an op running. Get me the President. Also I am going to need a blue print of the Chinese Embassy and infrared so get the satellites positioned. If I black out the block hey are going to think Bella turned off the lights and may panic. Can you take over the security cameras and turn them on a loop?”
“I don’t know. Can you kill people? I mean as long as we are questioning who can do their job.”
“Just get it done and let me know when you have the President.”
Bitch.
Still she was starting to grow on me.
Washington DC. The White House.
President David Rodriguez sits at his desk in the Oval Office waiting for the call to come through with the “President” of the People’s Republic of China.
He had waited long enough. Ten minutes had gone by and as he prepared to order the link closed the Leader of China voice came through speaking Chinese. Dave knew the man spoke English. His translator said hello. The translator was no doubt a highly valued political or war strategist.
“Cut the shit Xi. This isn’t a friendly call. Get your translator out of the room. We are going to speak of things that are best kept off the records and between us.
A minute went by until Xi finally said hello himself. Dave had no idea if his strategist was still in the room nor did he care. He wanted to speak to the man.
“What the hell do you think you are doing? Sending a special forces team to kidnap one of my citizens?”
“I’m sure I have no idea what you mean David.”
“You know exactly what I mean. Give Bella Swan back and you get your team back alive. If this doesn’t happen in the next fifteen minutes your team dies and we get her back anyway.”
“You plan to start a war with my country over a woman you think we have taken? I must say David she must be a special woman.”
“Your guys are held up in your embassy with her. They can’t fly out. I have a team waiting for their faces to step outside. They step out and they are dead. You can’t keep her there forever.”
“Of course not. Hypothetically if there was a team waiting for these Chinese nationalists it would be possible to kill Bella Swan if your team does not move away.”
“You won’t get her. Hand her over.”
“You would rather this woman die?”
“Xi when you were in High School or whatever the fuck it was you guys have, did your class vote on awards? Most likely to succeed? That sort of thing?”
“I am afraid I have no idea what you are speaking of.”
“I was voted most likely to become President and start a war with Soviet Union. You know why? It was the Cold War. Remember when your country desperately tried to keep up with an arms race you are still decades behind on? Now the Soviet Union is done. Terrorism keeps our military shapr but don’t ever think I have taken my eye off of you. You are planning on having your team take her to a boat on the coast and meet with the Chinese Sub thirty two miles off the coast of Texas. Tang class right? Congratulations on getting one completed that can actually sail more than a hundred miles without springing a major leak. As soon as that sub reaches my waters I have four fast attack subs already armed and ready to send it to the bottom. I’m going to even bring it up just for the hell of it to see how far behind us you still are. Don’t bother telling your captain to look for us. He won’t find us.”
“I have no idea what you are talking about.”
“Xi I am not kidding. I will fuck your nation up. All I need is one of my agents in your country to make a viable threat against Taiwan and I have all the excuse I need to light you up and take away your Navy and the skies over China. The UN won’t do shit about it either. Once your nukes are knocked out by my missile defense system your own people will rise up against you in fear of our retaliation. They will hang you and your family from the street posts in Tiananmen Square. They will hang your whole party. Give it up. You don’t get her.”
“I am not sure what or who you think we have in our embassy but if you attempt to breach our land it will be considered an act of war.”
“Xi I hope you aren’t stupid enough to bring that sub in my water. Because I’m not stopping there. I’m not kidding. Give it up or else.”
“President Rodriguez I would be very careful what you do next. You are not the only one with special “soldiers.”
“I didn’t figure I was. I just know mine are the best. Good day to you sir. Think about the decisions you make carefully but know this. I will bring war. I am not afraid of it. Matter of fact I have some new toys I am dying to try out that would be wasted on terrorist camps.”
“You do not frighten me and I do not appreciate being woken in the middle of the night to be threatened. This insult will be remembered.”
“Good. That’s a nice blue silk robe you have on by the way. Later.”
President Rodriguez cut the line and leaned back, watching the satellite monitor. The curtains in Xi’s office window were closed. He opened up line 2.
“Connolly?”
“Yes sir?”
“How soon can you get to the Chinese Embassy?”
“Uh…”
“Are you already inside the Embassy?” The President asked sighing.
“Of course not sir. Waiting on your go ahead.”
“Where are you?”
“Uh…”
“He and Gavin are in a parking lot across from the Embassy sir. They just arrived.” Chloe O’Brian’s voice cut in.
“Connolly?”
“Yes sir?”
“Gavin going in with you?”
“Yes sir.”
“You know what happens if you are discovered?” The President asked.
“I will have to kill everyone in the building and you will have a hell of a mess on your hands to explain?”
President David Rodriguez again sighed but smiled.
“Happy hunting Marine. Get her back.”
“Affirmative sir. Connolly out.”
Chinese Embassy, Houston Texas
“What is it?” Yeng asked as his subordinate hung up the phone.
“The Americans know we are here. They know our escape route. The submarine in the Gulf will be sunk if we attempt to board.”
Yeng cursed. He knew when the salon was not burnt, the plan had come apart. He hoped to hide out in the Embassy long enough to use the cover of night to spirit the girl away on a boat from Galveston harbor out to the gulf to meet the submarine. Then it would be a smooth route to China. As he should have expected nothing ever goes according to plan.
“What are our orders?”
“Kill the girl. Cut off her head and have the Doctor remove her brain. Burn her body in the furnace in the basement. The Party fears the US may attempt to storm our embassy.”
“They would not dare! This is Chinese soil! The fallout would be too great.” He said more to himself.
Still Yeng doubted.
“What have you found out about this Jason Connolly?” He asked his comrade.
“He is apparently a world famous male dancer. A member of the Chippendale’s dance review. He travels throughout the world dancing… nude.”
“You believe that?” Yeng asked incredulously.
“It is all we can find on him except his age. He is 69 years old.”
“Bullshit. It’s obviously a cover. A poor one at that. I would bet it was made in the last hours to mock us.”
“Why would they do that? We can find no military record for such a man. All men, even black ops have some sort of record.”
A feeling of dread filled Yeng’s heart. No identity meant…
“Kill the girl. Now.”
His trusted fellow soldier rushed off at once to the next room, no hesitation in him. Yeng had seen him kill women before. Perhaps he should have told him to do it humanely. Too late now.
Less than two minutes later he was back.
“That was quick. I congratulate you on controlling yourself.”
“She is gone.”
Yeng paled. He knew what she could do.
“The doctor?”
“Dead… his throat has been torn out. Are we sure she isn’t a vampire? The guard in the adjoining room on the other side was knocked cold. He is still out. The Doctor’s gun is missing and her bonds are beside his body.”
“Has she been dosed?”
“No. A full syringe lies next to his body.”
Yeng looked at the clock in a panic. She should have been given a dose thirty five minutes ago.
“The doctor’s blood is still slightly warm.” he offered.
Yeng looked at the monitors and saw the exits and entrances still covered by guards.
“She is still in this building. Find her. She is armed and obviously knows how to kill. We have no idea what abilities may have returned to her. Kill her immediately. Do not hesitate.”
Soldiers and guards began searching the embassy, room by room.
One young guard nearly closed a door until he heard what he thought was a noise in a closet. Slowly walking over he opened the door gun held in front of him.
He saw nothing. Not a thing other than a broom and a vacuum. He closed the door and announced the room to be clean.
Bella Swan let out the breath she had been holding. Thankfully she could now cloak herself. She could not control her environment and could not control the bodies of others. She was unable to deflect the feeling of curiosity in the young guard. But she could cloak herself. She felt her body. She knew she was tired and she could feel the drug burning out of her body. The rate was not fast enough for her but it would do. She did not have to kill the guard. That would have started a shoot out she was not prepared for.
She also knew her baby was okay. She could hear his heart. When she closed her eyes in the dark and traversed her body with her mind she saw him growing happily, no idea of the nightmare around his mother.
Bella just had to wait. As her body burned the drugs she would regain her powers. Then this building and everyone in it would be destroyed.
She did have one trick she hadn’t tried in a while. It could work. She had to try. She reached out with her mind feeling a small hum. She searched for him. Although she could not do this with everyone there was one mind she could always find.
Ty.
Ty POV
“TY!”
“What?!” I looked around thinking Bella done found her way in the back of this SUV. Jay looked at me strange.
“What are you doing?” he asked.
“Ty its me. I’m in your head.” Bella told me.
“You hear that?” I asked Connolly.
“I’m in your head Ty. Not his. Listen to me. I think I am at the Chinese Embassy. I’ve escaped and I am hiding in a closet. I need time for this drug to burn off but I am okay for now. Give me an hour and I will be back to you.” Boo told me.
“Bella says she escaped and is hiding in one of those offices.” I told Connolly who was painting black ink all over his face makin him look kinda spooky. He left his guard dog and my father in law back at the FBI office with instructions to go home and protect our families.
“Tell her we are coming.”
“No you aren’t! I got this Ty. Stay out of this place!”
My damn eyes must have winced. Bella thought loud.
“She says to stay where we are and she will be out soon.” I relayed.
“Tell her she can’t destroy the Embassy. Those guys are serious operators. Stay where she is and we are comin in.”
“Stay where you are Ty.” Bella’s bossy voice intruded in my head once more.
“Darlin, Connolly is goin in and I am going in with him. I’m getting you back. Let me do what I do and you lay low okay?”
“You play basketball!” she screamed in my head.
“Not today Bells. See ya in a bit baby. Love you.”
She tried to scream in my head but I closed my eyes and started playing Still DRE in mind.
“Cut that shit out!” She screamed over the music.
“Damn it Bella, stop distracting me. I’m about to invade China. At least a part of it. Stay quiet and don’t come out.”
“Fine.” She pouted.
“She always that bossy?” Connolly asked.
“You heard her?”
“Nope. I could read your face. Since when can she send thoughts into others heads?”
“Bout the same time she learned to… knock it off Jason.”
“Just wondering. You want some of this black face paint?” he smirked. I shot the finger at him.
“Okay. You loaded and ready right? Stay behind me. Chloe you there?”
“No I took a lunch break. Where the hell do you think I would be?”
“You got infrared?”
“You going to keep asking annoying questions? Your best way in is an electrical room in the back. You will have to hop the fence when I tell you too. Enter the room and on the other side is a door leading to the basement. You can move up from there.”
Connolly got out and I followed. Soon enough we were in front of a 10 foot wall. He ran up the wall with two steps and grabbed the top, pulling himself up easily. I heard an oomph as he dropped. Soon he was back.
“Okay, one guard down. Get your ass up here baller.”
I didn’t bother running up the wall. I jumped from a standing position and pulled myself up easily.
“Okay move.” Chole instructed. We raced to the electrical room. Connolly stopped and stared at the door.
“Chloe?”
“Yeah?”
“Can you open the door?”
“It’s not an electric lock. Simple lock. Please tell me you can handle this.”
“I don’t want to shoot the lock!” he whispered harshly.
“Shoot the lock or the two guards who will be standing in front of you in about twenty seconds.” She told us.
“I got this.”
I brushed aside Connolly and pulled Bella’s hair pins she makes me carry for her in my pocket. I brought them along when I changed into these duds Jay got me.
A few moves, a push and a press and the door unlocked. Connolly looked at me.
“What? You know where I grew up. You learned things growin up, so did I. Let’s go.”
We entered the room and he took a deep breath.
“You nervous? I figured you do shit like this all the time.”
“I’ve never done this.” He admitted.
“Invade an Embassy?”
“No, go into combat with a shooting guard as my back up. Bella is gonna flay me if I let you get hurt. Fuck it. First time for everything. Let’s go.” He opened the door. Guess it was time to throw down.
We made it down three turns in the hall when Chloe spoke up.
“Four guards moving towards you. May be some of the spec ops guys. They are moving slow, probably searching for your girl. Up above is a cluster of six. You may want to make this quiet or prepare for a firefight on the first floor.”
“Let me handle the strategy. Just keep me updated.”
Jay turned to me.
“She’s right. We need to take these guys quietly if possible.” He pulled a knife. I did the same. I had never actually fought with a knife but it seemed simple enough.
We waited against the wall, listening to the steps of the four guards. They walk past us in the dark. Connolly stabbed one in the back of the skull before I could move. The other three turned and attacked us. I tried to stab one and he knocked the knife out of my hand and kicked me against a wall. I barely dodged his fist. I tried to hit him twice and he dodged both times and then hit me in the jaw.
Fuck this.
I brought him in close and shot a leg up. An elbow to his nose and that fucker smashed. I picked him up by his throat and suddenly his legs were around my neck. My world turned upside down and I was flipped and hit the floor. Fucker was standing above me with a knife.
Least until his head twisted sideways and his neck snapped. Connolly looked down on me grinning. I saw three bodies behind him.
“You done fucking around yet?” he asked.
“You didn’t say they was ninja’s. Skinny little Jet Li fucker had moves.”
He helped me up and handed me my knife.
“Don’t ever hesitate to kill. They won’t. Put your silencer on your sidearm. Bullets from this point on. Besides you had a foot on that little guy. Fightin ain’t your thing brotha.”
“That’s some bullshit…”
“Thanks for distracting him for me while I killed his two friends.” Connolly said, walking off.
“When this is over me and you are gonna play some one on one bitch.”
“You gonna break my nose like you did to that other black guy Bella fucked named Ty?”
“I got a gun and I’m behind you. You best watch your step.”
“You watch my step. We got company comin.” Jason said serious like real quick.
“6 moving down the stairs Jason.” Chloe told us.
“Get down at the base with me. You shoot high and I got low.”
He knelt down and I stood over him, both our guns pointed at the stairwell. The stairs headed to one flight and then turned towards us. The lights came on.
“Chloe Bella is free. Kill the lights.” Connolly whispered.
Like that the lights went off.
We waited.
Until the damn grenade dropped in front of us.
Connolly and I dove back through the door behind us and I used my leg to kick the door shut an instant before the grenade went off.
Fire alarms were going off.
“You okay?” I asked him.
“No. I’m pissed. Chloe turn off the fire systems and all power. Give me updates on targets. I’m going in. Gavin stay behind me and shoot anything that isn’t me or Bella. No different than vampires. We just don’t have to burn them afterward. Let’s go.”
Connolly kicked the door barely hanging on its side and stepped in shooting straight up. I followed.
Automatic fire broke out. He ran up the stairs and I ran behind him. Guys in black came running down and dropped as they got shot. I shot two guys. I saw their eyes when they got hit. A part of me felt bad. A bigger part knew these guys had taken my woman.
Nobody takes my woman. Not Edward Cullen, Jasper Whitlock, or any of these motherfuckers. The rest all took shots in the head. Connolly never missed. Every shot ended in a red dot on these fuckers forehead and the back of their skulls blown out.
We started stepping on bodies, never stopping.
“You are on the ground floor. Everyone else in the building is coming to you. Be ready.”
I ran across the hall and looked towards the main welcoming desk. Connolly stayed where he was. The guys came down smooth like, using cover. I hoped they would be reckless like the guys in the stairwell. These fuckers know what’s up.
“Chloe can you tell me where all the signatures are? Are they all here? Is there any in perhaps a closet on the second or third level?”
“Standbye.”
“I opened up the cameras. Yeng is on two lying in wait. Looks like a feint signature in a closet three rooms behind him. Its… yeah it’s human. Flickering in and out. Can that Swan girl change her body temperature?”
“Probably. Thanks Chloe. Make sure no neighbors phone calls get through to the police department.”
Connolly pulled a pin and held the grenade for a few seconds.
Then he threw it hard.
As soon as the flash was done we ran into the welcoming area. Guys still alive were firing. I think I took a shot to the vest but it didn’t matter. Just like in the Walls Unit I was lookin for targets. I shot three. Connolly was surrounded by four guys who looked to be beaten the hell out of him. I aimed until I realized they all dropped. He stood there, knife in hand, holding one guy by the neck and turning him to the elevator where a guy shot from. The body took the bullet and Connolly fired twice taking the shooter out.
“How many targets left?”
“Looks like Yeng, one other soldier and your objective on level two. The ambassador himself on the third level.
“Ching is still here?”
“Desperately trying to get a hold of anyone who can help. Looks like all the communications have been cut because I am so damn good at my job. The Chinese President is desperately trying to get in touch with him by the way.”
“Sounds good. Connolly out.”
He turned to me.
“Stay here. Yeng is up there. He’s in survival mode. Make sure no one else comes back to life and follows me up. I’ll be down with Bella in a minute.”
“Hell no. There are two guys up there.”
“Yeah and the other is spec ops too. Stay here.”
“You want to tell me how to help you or figure it out myself? Cause I’m comin.” I asked.
Jay sighed and then nodded to one of the dead guys on the ground.
“Take his shotgun.”
Connolly POV
Where would I be?
I peered around the doorway. I saw nothing of course. I have to assume this guy is as good as I am if they trusted him to bring back someone like Bella Swan.
Okay. One two three.
I kicked the door open and opened fire, sending four shots up in all directions. Up, down, left, right.
One guy jumped down behind me. I turned when I heard his feet hit the ground. He had been hanging from the ceiling. Ty fired the shotgun from the doorway and the guy’s head exploded. I turned back and saw Yeng in front of me carrying an M4. I dove to the side and took two shots to the vest sending me sliding back across the floor. He aimed and I fired at his ankle hitting the bottom of his boot making him fall. He dropped the rifle and I got to my feet, firing.
Click.
Out of ammo. Yeng moved for the rifle until Ty fired the shotgun again from the floor hitting the M4. He jumped back and reached around his back. I rushed him.
We wound up with him on top. He struck and I blocked, throwing an elbow into his throat. Tossing him off he shook his head and went into a defensive stance.
“What do you say Yeng? Want a shot at the title?”
He smiled. I figured he spoke English.
He threw three punches and I dodged them all. He tried a head kick and I blocked it. He was fast. Not as fast as I was.
“Ty find Bella.”
“You sure you don’t want to see if she can just turn this fucker inside out or something and we can still make my bachelor party?”
“Find Bella.”
“I’m right here.” Bella appeared behind Yeng. He turned and we all froze. She was covered in dried blood. Even her face had blood.
“What did you do to her?” I hissed.
“Nothing Jason. I killed the doctor in there. Tore his throat out.”
“With your teeth?” Ty asked. Bella nodded.
“Damn that’s hot.” I whispered, glad Leah wasn’t present to hear that.
“Yeah but you are seriously brushing your teeth and gargling with some Listerine before I kiss you baby. Come here.” Ty told her.
Bella ran to Ty and I turned back to Yeng.
“Bella?”
“Yeah?”
“If he wins kill him.”
“No problem.
Yeng’s eyes went wide, just like I wanted.
He threw a punch and I tossed him over me to the ground, wrapping him in an arm bar and dislocating his shoulder. He screamed.
I let him up and waited for him to collect himself.
“Strike one. Three strikes and you’re out boy.”
“Who are you?” Yeng asked.
“Jason Connolly.”
He rushed me with a front kick. I caught his kick and rammed him back to the ground, stepping on his chest and twisting his leg, snapping the tendons in his knee.
He was strong and deadly. He wasn’t me and we both knew it. He hopped up, fear evident in his eyes.
“Strike two.”
He tried to stand on both legs and couldn’t. I did see determination in his eyes though.
He reached into his pocket and pulled a grenade out. He pulled the pin and smiled.
The smile was gone when the grenade flew past Bella and Ty straight down the stairwell. It blew up a few seconds later safely downstairs.
“Thank you Bella. You ready to end this, Yeng?”
He took a deep breath and raised his hands. We met in the middle. His strike never hit me because my fist crushed his Adam’s apple. I twisted his head to make sure and let him drop.
I turned and looked at the two reunited lovers.
“We’ve killed everybody else. Should we kill the Ambassador too?”
“Fuck yeah. I’m feeling pretty good right now.” Bella replied pulling Ty with her.
He was sitting behind his office desk on the third having a very stiff drink.
His desk flew away and he stood in front of us involuntarily. I heard the bones of his legs crushing. Not breaking. Crushing. Looking at Bella I could see she was indeed feeling much better.
“Good news son. We ain’t gonna kill you.” Ty told him while he writhed on the ground in pain. Ty did hand him his glass and a bottle of booze and we left. As soon as we were in the SUV Bella looked at the building she had been in and I suppose the boilers in the basement exploded. Something happened because that concrete embassy was nothing but a ball of fire. I hoped the ambassador enjoyed his last drink.
“We still got time to get to the bachelor party.” I mentioned. Bella was curled up into Ty assuring him that her and the baby were fine.
“Please take us to Donna’s house Jason. I really need to shower and brush my teeth. Then I am going to make love to my man until midnight. After midnight he is all yours so long as you have him at the church by noon.”
“Bella after the wedding we really need to talk about…”
“I know Jason. I’ll work with you. We will get this figured out.”
“Thanks Bella.”
“Yeah, well I guess I owe you. For keeping Ty out of trouble and all.”
“I killed some guys Babe. Just sayin. You ain’t the only one tonight. I mean I didn’t bite no throats or cut pieces of skin off people like you two freaks but I took some bitches down.”
“My hero.” Bella smiled and started rubbing Ty’s head. It was a sweet moment. I wouldn’t even give them shit about the tears in both their eyes.
Bejing China.
President Xi was very worried. A spy just informed him that his Embassy in Houston has been destroyed and burned and his submarine that was destined to bring the secret of human evolution to his nation was forced away by four fast attack subs from the US coast. He had to respond or the United States would think him weak. Think him afraid. But how to explain this situation to his peers? To the world? The US obviously sent in a large strike team to rescue the girl. He only hoped his team managed to kill her before the US forces got to her.
No shots had been fired at his sub. It would have been suicide if his captain had fired. The vessel was surrounded. The stealth mission had failed. The entire mission had failed and he was not sure why.
His phone rang. No doubt the arrogant American President wanting to feel out Xi’s reaction to the events of the evening.
“Hello?”
“Turn on your computer.” A female voice instructed him.
He slowly moved his mouse with a trembling hand causing the monitor to come to life. He nearly jumped back at the face on the screen. A brown haired, brown eyes girl with her face caked in what looked like dried blood. She grinned and he saw her teeth were also covered in what looked like drie blood. Apparently the girl lived.
“I’m Bella Swan. This time tomorrow my name will be Bella Gavin. I broke into your phone line and I broke into your computer. There will be no record of this. I can even see you right now through the camera on your monitor. Do I have your attention?”
“Yes.” Xi pressed the button under his desk.
“Don’t worry about the button. Nobody is coming. Matter of fact you are locked in right now.” Xi heard the locks on his door slide shut.
“Would you like to speak in your native tongue or will English be fine? It is very important that you understand what I am about to tell you.”
“English is fine.” Xi whispered.
“Good. If you are wondering how I am doing this I can assure the US has nothing to do with it. I’m not really sure how to be honest. But I can tell you that I am connected to the world like no other human ever has been. I can see and feel whatever I wish from anywhere.”
“Hey bitch how you doin?” a large black guy entered the frame.
“This is my fiancé Ty Gavin. Do you recognize him?”
Xi nodded.
“Are you having problems breathing right now? A tightening of your throat perhaps?”
Xi realized that indeed his throat felt as if it was being squeezed. Suddenly it was being squeezed very tightly.
“I am in Houston Texas and I can strangle you right now if I wish. I can control every electronic device in your office, your car, your life. I can kill you from anywhere. I can also sink your very expensive Submarine that is one hundred and twenty miles from the coast of Texas. I can make it fire its ballistic missiles at your mansion. Do you believe me?”
The constriction of Xi’s throat released. He nodded his head.
“Yes. I believe you.”
“You ever come after me again I will detonate every nuke you have in your country. Maybe I will just kill you and the head of your little spy agency. Maybe I influence one of your enemies to stage a coup. Maybe I inspire an uprising. Do you think I can control three million people? I don’t. Not yet. But who knows what could happen next week. Your embassy was destroyed by a boiler explosion. Tragedy. Suck it up and deal with it. You try to bring any reprisals against my government and I end you. We understand each other?”
“Yes. I believe we have an understanding.”
“That’s good. Real good. And stay the fuck out of Taiwan. You piss me off again and I’m gonna make you leave Hong Kong. I’m gonna see ya’ll in the Olympics in a couple years. You try any underhanded shit there she gonna plant you. Got it Xi?” Ty added.
“Yes. There will never be a problem between us.”
“Make sure there isn’t. Your life and perhaps your country depend on it. President Rodriguez sends his regards. Later bitch.” Bella told him.
“Yeah later bitch. I got a wedding and a honeymoon to get too. Hate the game not the playa.” Ty told him before the screen went black.
Xi hung up the phone. He then picked it up and called the director of special activities.
“Yes sir?”
“The Bella Swan file? I want it destroyed. Burned. Nothing with her names is to remain in our records. Understand?”
“But sir…”
“Do it! Immediately! I will check in the morning myself.”
“It will be done at once sir.”
Houston Texas
“Think he will bother us again?” Ty asked.
“Not unless he wants to die. I don’t think he does. Why don’t you go to your party baby?” Bella suggested.
“I almost lost you tonight. I’m taking you to the shower and cleaning you up. Then we are going to make love till midnight.”
“I’m staying the night with you.” Ty told her.
“Nope. Bad luck to see the bride before the wedding.” Bella told him sternly.
“You can turn invisible.” Ty suggested.
“Baby since we have been engaged we have had enough bad luck, don’t you think?”
“Nah. We are still here right?”
Bella admitted to herself that he did have a point.
“You can sleep in Jeff’s room if you don’t want to go to the party. But we are doing this right.” Bella told him.
“You really gonna work with those guys to get a handle on this shit?”
“Yeah, it’s probably time to find out what’s going on. I realize it’s not a game anymore. But they aren’t taking over our lives.”
“Baby after tonight I got a feeling they will take whatever they can get from you. Now lets get you cleaned up so I can kiss you before midnight. Since I am missin out on strippers you are going to have to pick up the slack.”
“Yeah? I’m missing out on strippers too you know?” Bella pointed out.
Ty winked at her.
“Not a problem. I got my black jock strap in the closet. Turn on some Drake and I will be right back.”
