She’s So Gone
By Midnight Dreamer

Chapter 04:
Izzy’s summer classes ended that Saturday, giving both her and Charlie the rare Sunday free. They decided to take a drive. Izzy had no idea where Charlie was taking her but relaxed into the seat and enjoyed the ride. She must have dozed off because she was startled awake when the car came to a stop. When she looked up she saw they were parked outside of a large music store.
Grinning at Charlie as she exited the car she practically bounced into the store. It was like watching time rewind. Izzy was no longer the sixteen year old junior in high school, she was that awkward 12 year old who was just told she could buy any doll she wanted from the toy store. Her excitement seemed contagious and everyone she passed soon smiled too.
When she came to the instrument section her eyes automatically sought out the guitars. Once she spotted the beautiful red on black 51″ fender sitting off by itself, she couldn’t stop the smile that spread across her face. Rushing to it, she picked it up. Settling it into position and hooking it up to the small speaker on the ground next to it, she strummed a few bars to make sure it was in tune. Once she had it tuned to her liking she began to play.
Losing herself in the music she didn’t even notice the audience that had circled around her. When she finished she looked around and blushed as applause erupted. The store owner came over to her and offered her a job playing here at the store after school and on the weekends. She didn’t have it in her to say no, so she nodded her head yes.
That night while lying in bed Izzy realized that it had only been four months since moving in with Charlie and already she had made big changes in herself. She was thinner, her body toned. Her self-esteem seemed to be at an all-time high. She had a job, now all she needed was some friends and a car to get her around. (Riding a bike in the rain, even in Texas is not the most brilliant idea.)
The next morning as promised, her school schedule arrived. Looking over it she noticed the only class she didn’t get that she had signed up for was world history, instead she was taking American history again. Glancing over her schedule she took note of how the curriculum ran here.

After reading through it a few times and memorizing as much as she could, she smiled and put the schedule into her book bag. She had a feeling that this would be a much better year.
