She’s So Gone
By Midnight Dreamer

Chapter 05:
That afternoon, when the boredom once again set in, Izzy hopped on her bike and rode over to the school campus. She figured it wouldn’t hurt to map out direct routes to all her classes before school started. After she found a course that worked for her, she decided to check out the sports fields that she didn’t get to see last time. The fields were also college worthy.
The football field was dead center, to the left was soccer, to the right baseball. A large dirt track surrounded the football field. As she wandered past, she saw the building that she assumed held the pool, to the right of that was a tennis court and to the left a basketball court. The area seemed like a sports nuts wet dream. Izzy being Izzy, she couldn’t resist the urge to take several laps around the dirt track; just enough to stretch her legs. When she finished her run she checked her watch. She was going to have to rush home to meet her dad so he could take her in to the music store. Damn what she wouldn’t give to have her own car right now.
After work they did their usual routine and then it was off to bed to start all over again. When Izzy woke they took their usual run and then took turns showering once they got back home. When Izzy came down from the shower she didn’t expect to see Charlie still sitting there with a cup of coffee in his hands; he was normally already on his way to work.
“You’re home?”
“Yeah. Work’s slow today.”
“So what’re we gonna do today, i didn’t have any plans.”
“I have something to show you.”
“Oh.”
“Eat your breakfast.”
Izzy was excited to find out what it was so she quickly ate and cleaned up. Charlie chuckled at his daughter.
“Well, come on.”
Charlie stood and led her out the back door to a garage she hadn’t remembered ever seeing. Upon entering he flicked on the lights. There sitting dead center was a 1979 mint condition Pontiac Trans Am; Midnight blue with ghost flames licking up the fenders, and off white leather interior. Izzy screeched.
“Where did you get this?”
“Got here the other day.”
“Is this for me?”
“Sure is Izzy.”
“You didn’t need to buy me a car.”
“I didn’t. This was mine… Now I did get it painted for you but that’s it. She is just as she was when I bought her fresh off the lot. Well, except for the stereo. I had that upgraded to a CD player with a plug for your IPod or mp3 thingy. I still have the original 8 track player that was in it.”
“Dad this is so cool.”
“You’re welcome Izzy.”
“Can we take her for a spin?”
“Sure thing Kiddo, get in.” He said, tossing her the keys.
Settling into the seat she started the engine. It roared to life before settling into a beautiful purr. Slipping her into gear Izzy backed out of the garage. Once the tires hit the blacktop she punched the clutch, shifted into gear and hit the gas. The engine growled as the car took off. Izzy giggled as Charlie Laughed.
“Baby girl, you are so much like me it ain’t funny.”
After riding around for a while, they refilled the tank and headed home. Pulling her back into the garage, they got out.
“I wanna show ya some stuff before you have to head to work.”
“Sure”
“Pop the hood.”
Izzy did as she was told and reached under the console, popping it open. Coming around to stand next to her dad she leaned in as he explained how to check all the fluids and what each one did to keep the car running. He told her that he would teach her how to work on the car herself in order to help save on upkeep. Izzy was beyond excited to get to learn about her car, and getting to spend extra time with Charlie was an added bonus. By the time they finished she had to leave for the music store. With a kiss on the cheek and a wave to Charlie she headed off to work.
She was but an hour into playing, when she felt like someone was watching her. Looking around her she finally caught the eyes of a boy about her age. She smiled at him, thinking to herself that his eyes were captivating. She felt as if he could just ‘See’ her. The real her. She shook her head with an amused grin at her thoughts, and once again focused her attention on her playing.
