She’s So Gone

By Midnight Dreamer

Chapter 13:

Izzy had never been happier for Charlie’s timing in her life. She wasn’t ready to meet the rest of them. Especially after that moment with Jasper. What was that anyway? Oh well there was no time to worry about it now. She had to get home and get ready to go to the music shop.

Work went by uneventful. The boss man came over and thanked her for helping to bring more customers into his store. It seemed that most people thought it strange for a music supply store not to have music playing. He explained to her that he had just never found music that he thought appropriate or pleasant enough to play. Izzy blushed at the compliment.

He told her that there was a cafe downtown that had an open mic night for locals and asked if she would be willing to represent the music shop in one of their showcases. At first Izzy was nervous, but then Dave spoke up and said that she wouldn’t have to sing, just play. That made her feel better. She said she would think about and get back to them.

When she arrived home she told Charlie all about the proposition from her boss. He told her he had heard about those competitions. They were a great way for local shops to drum up business. He said that there were several other music stores around the city that submitted entries as well as local eateries that had house bands. Izzy said she would have to think about it more; but would keep it in mind that it wasn’t judging her, but a way to bring in more customers to the shop.

That night Izzy sat strumming at an old guitar that she had found in Charlie’s attic. He told her that it was her grandfathers and that that is probably where she got her talent from as neither he nor Renee had any musical talent that he could recall. She began humming along with the tune and soon she was jotting down notes and lyrics on to a sheet of paper. When she finished, she glanced down at what she had finished and thought that her subconscious must have decided for her. She was gonna do the competition and apparently she would be singing as well.

School the next day was strange. Rose kept saying how the others were jealous that Rose and Jasper got to talk to her and they didn’t. Rose even told Izzy how Emmett or Link had pouted like a toddler who had his new toy taken away. Izzy laughed.

“I would love to meet Link. But Tink and Pan give me bad vibes.”

Rose giggled.

“Alice was jealous that Edward had got excited when he first heard that there was a new girl coming to school, and that Jasper had damn near drooled over your playing skills.”

“Oh that reminds me. Do you know anything about the open mic night’s competition?”

“Yeah what about them. Are you gonna play?” Rose asked.

“Yeah I think so. Unc at the music shop asked if i would represent the store.”

“Wow are you gonna sing too?”

“I guess. I was just fiddling around last night and wound up writing a whole new song.”

“That is so cool. We’re gonna be there too.”

“You are?”

“Yeah we have a band. We usually play at the local pizza joint outside the mall. We have been their house band for 4 years now. So we play there every year.”

“Oh wow.”

Izzy suddenly got a strange feeling that something was gonna happen. She wasn’t sure if it would be good or bad but something none the less.

The rest of the day passed quickly. When it was time for her to go to work that strange feeling came back to her. Whatever it was she now knew it was gonna happen while she was at work.
