Chapter 23:

Ty’s POV

I strolled up to boo and tried not to meet her freaky eyes. I loved her but damn she was a bit scary right now. The wind had gone down to nothing. No one was sayin a damn thing.

A drive by was comin.

That Mexican chick knew she was in the gunsights. My baby was bout to pull the trigger.

With a snap that damn near made me jump Maria’s arms and legs were torn from her body.

Her torso floated up to meet Bella’s eyes. Maria’s eyes were darting back and forth until Bella spoke. Then her eyes met shortie’s and I saw complete fear.

“Once in everyone’s life they will meet one person they should not fuck with. Connolly was that person for Sam. I’m that person for you.”

Maria said nothing. Probably because her jaws were clamped shut.

“Peter? Charlotte? Jasper? Which one of you wants to end this bitch?” Bella asked.

“I think all three of us would like to Bella.” Jasper answered her.

Maria’s torso flew back and Peter, Jasper and Charlotte all fell on it snarling. Maria’s screams lasted only a second. When the three rose up there were only tiny pieces of her. But one eyeball was still moving.

“Somebody burn this shit. It’s disturbing.” I told them. Demond walked up and started to light pieces of her. The rest of the team limped into the yard and along with Garrett started burning pieces of every vampire piece on the ground. I noticed some of them were limping. Some were bleeding. Toby’s arm was hanging limp but he had his rifle raised in his other. Dan still looked dazed and Rudi’s head was bleeding. Connolly was favoring one side and was limping for some reason even though he didn’t look like his leg was hurt.

My answer came a few minutes later when Leah and Jack walked out of the darkness of the trees. Leah was limping. She had a big hole in her left pant leg and blood covering her leg. It looked like it had already healed over though. To her credit she hadn’t wolfed out.

“Leah get over here!” Connolly ordered. Leah limped over.

“What the fuck happened?” he asked her.

“She took a shot meant for me. Hit her in the thigh.” Jack told him.

“It healed.” She argued, still in obvious pain.

“It healed over the bullet. I can feel it like it’s in my own damn thigh. The bullet has to come out. Esme you got alcohol inside?” Connolly asked.

“Yes. I think Carlisle kept it in the bathroom in case Bella ever… yeah it’s in there.” She motioned back to the house that was quickly turning into an inferno.

“Great. Leah come with me. Jack check the status of the rest of the team.”

Bella looked up at me and I was relieved to see her eyes were normal.

“What the fuck was that?” I asked her.

“What was what? You’re welcome by the way. What the fuck were you doing walking out there like that? What did you think would happen?” she asked, pretty pissed off. Her eyes weren’t black though.

“The guys needed time. I thought if I could focus her on me, everybody else could get in position. Things were getting hot inside. Speakin of…”

I turned and saw Dad leadin Momma and Jeff out by the hand, Feather following behind.

“Come here you guys.”

They ran towards us and Momma had me and Bella in her arms.

“Is it over? They all dead? Cause if not we gonna need to find a new crib.” Jeff mentioned.

Bella looked at me and nodded.

“Yeah. Its all over. Time to go home.” I told them. I noticed Dad looked away. I put a hand on his shoulder.

“You gonna have a home too. I’ll take care of it. Okay?”

He nodded and brought me in for a hug.

“I saw the damn thing son. I thought you was dead.”

He was startin to cry.

“Yeah it’s hard to get dead when you’re engaged to Carrie White. She takes care of shit. I knew she had it.” I winked at Bella who wasn’t smiling. She wasn’t mad though. So I had that goin for me.

Bella POV

I’m going to kill him when we are alone. Unbelievably stupid. Of all the people here who are bullet proof or at least had body armor on he decided to be the one to go out and calm things down.

I was so pissed at him. I wouldn’t show it though. Not now. Now I just wanted to take him somewhere and make love to him for hours. He thinks catching that bullet was easy? Lucky. Blind damn luck that…

Charlie nearly tackled me from behind. I turned and saw he had reached the yard and the wolves of La Push were sniffing around. Sam Uley looked furious. Jacob was coming towards me looking concerned.

“Back off Jake!’ I warned him. Ty had pulled a gun on him a second after I said it. He put his arms up and backed up.

“You alright kid?” Dad asked.

“Never better.”

“I’m okay too Chief Daddy.”

“What about… I mean you think the…” he stuttered.

“My baby is fine. The little peanut is right where it is supposed to be.”

“We need to get you checked out still.” I told her.

“No reason. I can hear his heartbeat and feel him growing inside. Everything is fine.” I told him.

Oops. Probably should have kept that to myself.

“What the hell are you talking about Bella?” Garrett asked, my bodyguard already in my face.

“You heard me.” I told him trying to deflect the question.

“Yeah so did I but I want to hear it again. What do you mean you can hear our little baby’s heartbeat?”

“Now isn’t the time you two. Look around us. We can talk later about it. Right now we need to get out of here. Get home.”

“Fine Bella, but we will talk about this.” Garrett told me.

“Fuck you Garrett. Piss me off and I will rip you to pieces like I ripped Maria to pieces.”

Shit.

“I’m sorry Garrett. I want my dog and my shit and I want to go to Phoenix and not be surrounded by vampires or special forces soldiers for a while. I’m feeling irritated and I shouldn’t have taken it out on you.”

I noticed that Donna, Ty Senior, Jeff Charlie and Sue were all staring at me.

“She’s right. Let this fucking house burn. If the bad guys are dead we need to leave.” Ty agreed. “Time to head back to our cribs.”

“Yeah we got choppers coming in to take you all where you need to go. Donna, you and Jeff will be heading back home to Houston tonight. Mr. Gavin I believe Garrett needs to speak to you about some ideas for living arrangements he has for you. Ty, you and Bella and Feather will be on your way to Arizona tonight. As soon as my guys are bandaged up we will be talking to your friends and making sure they understand the importance of secrecy.” Jack explained.

“But right now I need to get control of those wolves before my commanding officer calls in an airstrike on them.”

Connolly POV

“You are not going to cut into her leg! She needs a hospital!” Uley shouted. If he shouted one more time I was cutting his vocal cords out. I had managed to grab a bottle of alcohol right before the damn second floor bedroom crushed the first floor bathroom I had been in.

“I’m going to feel what she is feeling. She can handle it and so can I. Now shut up and go away.”

“Yeah Sam. Get lost.” Leah agreed. I took my knife and made the cut quick an inch in length and a quarter inch deep and pulled back. The bullet was still in one piece. Taking tweezers from the med bag I grabbed it quickly and pulled back.

God it hurt like hell. I literally felt like I had stabbed myself. To her credit she didn’t scream. I poured alcohol into the wound feeling my leg light on fire once again. The cut healed quickly before my eyes and the soreness in my leg went away. I met her eyes and saw her smile.

“Why didn’t you go wolf?”

“I couldn’t. Jack was to close in the tree. I took the shot and he killed the two who fired. Wasn’t much point in losing my clothes. I did fire my rifle at one. I missed though.”

“Don’t worry bout it. We will get you trained up. I’ll have you the second best shot on the team in no time.” I winked at her. I was seriously beginning to fall in love with this woman. She let me cut a bullet out of her. That was the hottest thing I have ever seen a woman do.

“Leah you aren’t serious about this? You are really leaving?” Uley asked.

Leah met his eyes.

“Bye Sam. I got a new pack to run with now.”

“Guess that is your answer Uley. Pleasure doin business with you. You and your guys can leave. Best get Jake out of here before Bella hurts him.”

Uley took a look at the large knife in my hand and met Leah’s eyes once more.

“He’s going to get you killed.”

“Maybe. I’d rather die with him than live under your thumb. I go where he goes.”

Sam nodded his head and walked off. Jake tore his eyes from Bella and followed Sam. The rest of the pack retreated except Seth who hugged Leah and walked away. I saw a few tears in both their eyes.

I kissed her. Now that everything was calming down I really wanted to make sure she was okay. I wasn’t sure what we had but lust wasn’t a bad place to start any relationship and I really wanted to get her alone.

Jasper POV

Staring at the burning pieces of Maria I felt nothing. The joy I thought I would feel wasn’t there. Peter and Charlotte seemed satisfied. Me?

“I guess it’s over.” I realized as I said it out loud.

“Yep. This battle is.” Peter agreed and walked off with Charlotte towards Connolly.

They were joining Garrett. Bella was going back to Phoenix. In less than a month she would be married. Peter and Charlotte were going off on their own adventures. That left me in my house in the desert. I saw Esme staring at the burning remains of the Cullen mansion. Moving closer to her I saw a slight smile on her face.

“Penny for your thoughts?”

“Just glad to be done with this.”

“Done with what?”

“This. All of it. I just texted Carlisle and told him I wouldn’t be coming back. Then I crushed my phone. Garrett will have another one ready for me.”

“You broke up with Carlisle?” I asked a little surprised.

“Yep. You didn’t think I was going back did you?”

“You broke up with him by text?”

“Yep. I’ve heard enough of his crap over the last eight decades. I really didn’t need to hear anymore.”

“You were nearly ripped to pieces tonight Esme. You need to go back. You need to be safe…”

I was a little surprised to find myself on the ground with her on top of me. Her lips met mine and I let them. I have to admit I didn’t mind so much.

When she released me I could feel every single inch of her body on top of mine.

“Fuck safe. Garrett will teach me what I need to know. If you don’t trust him come with me. Or go back to your house in the desert and do nothing. I want you. You want to give it a shot come with me. But I am going. I will fight and I am going to live.”

“You don’t know how to fight.” I told her, trying to get my mind off the fact that my body was having an extreme reaction to hers and she looked really good in all black.

“So teach me. What’s it going to be God of War? You want to come with me and look for a fight that matters?”

“You could come with me.” I offered.

“No. I’m going where the action is. I’ve had enough of being a housewife. What’s it going to be?”

“Good choice.”

I suppose it was time to move on.

Bella POV

We had made it. After a tearful goodbye to Donna, Ty senior and Jeff, a hug for Charlie, a see ya around for Sue, and hugs for Connolly and his team, a long helicopter ride and a short car ride I wanted to fall down on the front steps of our apartment building and kiss the ground. I wouldn’t though. I needed to get upstairs, feed Feather, make love to Ty and bitch him out for nearly getting shot and leaving me to be a single parent. Then eat. Eating was a priority. I was hungry as hell.

Ty had his arm wrapped around me and I curled into him on the walk up, giving brief nods to our fellow residents.

We reached our door and I stopped.

I knew. I could feel them in there. I could feel her.

“Ty you have your gun?”

“After what we been through? I’m sleepin with this bitch under my pillow.”

“Special ammo?”

“Yeah. Why?”

“Let me have it.”

“Where is yours?”

“Packed.”

The gun flew from Ty’s waist band into my hand.

“That’s fucked up. We are having a serious talk about this shit…”

Looking at the doorknob, he understood what to do. I watched him slide the key in and slowly open the door. Our hallway was empty. It was short though and led into our living room. She was there… no they were. Three of them. The one that mattered would be dealt with first.

I slid the gun behind my back and walked as casually as possible into our living room. Feather began barking but Ty held her back.

There she was. Flanked by Rose and Emmett.

Alice.

“Hello Bella. You have a lot of explaining to do. Edward has been here. Victoria has been here. I can see neither of their futures. Esme broke up with Carlisle by a damn text message and I had a vision of her and Jasper having sex! I want to know where Edward is, where Jasper is, and I want to know what the hell…”

My eyes flashed to the two vampires who were standing by Alice and now seemed to be shocked into immobility.

Rose and Emmett’s eyes widened as their bodies were lifted into the air.

“Listen up. Edward is dead. Victoria killed him. Victoria is dead. Maria killed her. I killed Maria. Esme is fucking Jasper now and they are not coming back. Its best neither of you nor Carlisle try to look for them. Now do either of you have a problem with anything that just happened or that you were just told?”

Rose and Emmett shook their heads furiously.

“I don’t even like this family. They are so weird. I was telling Rose the other day we needed to leave… right Rose?” Emmett began.

“Yeah, things have gotten way out of hand. We were going off on our own. We just came with her because…”

I dropped them both to the floor while Rose rambled.

“Get out now. Mention what you have seen here to no one or I’m blowing your fucking heads off too. Take this bitches body with you. I ever see either of you again you are dead.”

Before I could blink, Ty and I were alone with our puppy. I handed him his gun.

“You think you a hard core G now huh? All super powered and shit. Think you a bad ass don’t ya?”

He tried to sound angry but I knew he wasn’t.

“I’m going to the bedroom. You coming?”

“Feather stay.” was all he said. It was enough.

Ty POV

I followed Bella till we got to our bedroom. I took a moment to take in our love palace and lifted her by her waist before she could throw me around with some superpower bullshit.

“I don’t know.” I told him honestly. “I just feel very connected to my body.”

That was the truth. Part of the truth.

The whole truth was there wasn’t a thing I couldn’t accomplish. From instantly sending hair away from legs and other parts to feeling my baby’s heart beat if I wanted to. I could hear it last night. I could almost visualize him. I felt like I could read a book in minutes and remember it all. I could learn a language by just reading it. I was so aware of my surroundings it was surreal.

“We need to talk to Garrett. This shit could be bad for you in the long run. I mena you didn’t just fly last night. You flew and carried me next to you. You were getting stronger at these things and now… I just don’t want anything to hurt your health. Maybe Garrett can do something to turn you back to… normal?”

“You think I’m not normal?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.

“You know what I mean girl. I can’t have you stroking out on me.”

He did have a point.

“You really want to have more vampires around?” I asked him.

“I want you safe and healthy.”

“Let me unpack. Have a week to rest. I will chill. Swear baby. Then if things are still feeling weird we will give Garrett a call. Promise.”

I slipped on my robe and waited for Ty to take Feather out before I started breakfast. Once he walked out though I knew there was something else that needed to be done first.

I could feel the energy field in the apartment.

And I shattered it.

Sitting on the couch I watched TV for a few moments until the knock came. I didn’t bother getting up. The door opened while I sat there and Garrett walked in with a smile.

“Turning my apartment into an EEG Garrett? Not very nice.”

“How did you know it was there?”

I shrugged my shoulders.

“You tell me. You are the one who gave me these powers.”

“Bella not one of those brainwaves had anything to do with the extra senses you seem to have acquired. The vampire who had telekinesis? She never could have ripped Maria apart like you did. You aren’t copying powers. You are acquiring your own. You are getting stronger. Your brain is operating on a level never seen before. This doesn’t concern you?”

“Garrett?”

“Yes Bella?”

“Thanks for protecting me and Ty. I know you did it for Donna but I appreciate it. Now get out. You ever try to spy on me or Ty again and I will rip you to pieces just like Maria. We understand each other?”

He dropped his head and walked to the door.

“You may need me. I’ll be waiting when you do.”

When he reached the hallway the door closed behind him.

I didn’t know what he did to me. I did know that these things I could do were more than stolen vampire powers.

But I wouldn’t be trusting him to figure it out. I wouldn’t be used as a weapon by him or the government.

No I just needed to stop using these powers. Just relax. Live life. A life without the supernatural.

No problem right?
