She’s So Gone
By Midnight Dreamer

Chapter 06:
Jasper had gotten bored sitting at home. They had just come back from summering in Montana with his grandparents where they owned a horse ranch close to the mountains. He wasn’t sure if the others were home yet or not. Emmett and Alice went to Tennessee to their grandparents, while Edward was off visiting his dad in Chicago. Rose was supposed to be in Aspen with her mom. After a few phone calls he found that only he and Rose were already home, and he had no interest in spending any alone time with her.
Grabbing his keys he headed to the only other place he could find solitude. As he pulled up outside of the music store he whistled lowly to himself. Eyeing the Trans Am parked only two spots away, he decided someone had good taste, then entered the store. It took him a moment to realize that something was different. There was music playing through the store sound system. They’d never had that before…
His curiosity got the better of him as he browsed through the shelves. Picking up a new set of sticks for his drum set, fresh strings for his guitar, a new pick and some polish, he finally made it back to the instruments and found the source of the music. He stood stock still in his state of shock, there was a girl in the far corner of the room playing beautiful rifts on a fender that was hooked into the audio system of the store.
When she looked up and smiled at him, his breath caught. She was as beautiful and as haunting as the melody she was playing. Not the fake plastic Barbie doll beauty that the rest of the girls around here tried to pull off, but classic pin-up girl of the 50’s beauty. Flawless pale skin, bright green eyes that seemed to have a blue flame dancing around their centers, a small button nose and plump lips that looked to be softer than a flowers petals.
The moment only lasted a few seconds before she went back to playing. Turning on the spot he headed toward the checkout counter to pay for his purchases. Behind the counter was Dave, a fellow student and nephew of the store’s owner. They began to chat as Dave rung him up.
“Hey Dave.”
“Hey Jazzman, just get back into town?”
“Yeah got in this morning, saw i needed some supplies.”
“Cool, cool. You ready for new term?”
“As ready as i can be.”
“Yeah i feel ya man.”
“So what’s with the tunes dude?”
“Oh That’s Izzy. She moved here at the beginning of summer to stay with her dad. She was only supposed to stay till term started but i guess that changed and now she’s chillin’ till grad. She came in last week and picked up that fender, started playing and drew in a huge crowd. So Unc gave her a job playing here week nights after school and weekends.”
“So she lives with?”
“Oh right, her dad is Doc Swan.”
“I didn’t know he had a daughter…”
“Neither did anyone else. It was a surprise to everyone. Apparently he was married before he moved here. They got divorced when Izzy was 3. He moved here and she stayed with her mom in Phoenix.”
“Rumor mill or horse’s mouth?”
“Rumor mill. She don’t really talk much to anyone but her dad and Unc of course.”
“Huh. Wonder why?”
“Don’t know. Not even any rumors yet. I think that will change once school starts on Monday.”
“True, well I gotta get going dude, I’ll see ya Monday?”
“Yep, later Jazz.”
Jasper took his bag and got into his car. Sitting there he began to go over everything Dave had said. The new girl is starting school on Monday, nobody knows anything about her except she plays guitar, her dad is Doc Swan and she don’t talk much. Well he would just have to see if he could change a few of those things.
