She’s So Gone

Chapter 10:

Izzy was surprised to find that she didn’t have homeroom with any of the fabulous five as she had now dubbed them. She wondered if she would be able to talk to them at all seeing as how she was what they would consider their underling. It sucks being the new kid.

As soon as the bell for first period rang Izzy settled in a different seat then she had for homeroom. She moved from the front to the back row so she could continue her perusal of the student body for potential friend candidates. As the class room filled one of the fab five entered. It was Aphrodite. She seemed to be looking for the perfect seat when she locked eyes with Izzy. A small smile graced her lips as she made her way toward the back.

Taking the seat next to her she turned to face Izzy. Izzy was shocked. She never thought one of them would sit next to her, let alone smile at her. It took Aphrodite speaking to her to jolt her from her muddled thoughts.

“So you’re new here?”

“Yes” Izzy replied quietly.

“What do you think so far?”

“It’s okay. I think. It’s just another school.”

“Anything like your old school?”

“Not Really. That school was all one building. So i imagine it would seem smaller than this one, but i believe that the population of the student body in Phoenix is larger than it is here in Dallas.” Izzy rambled. She always rambled when she was nervous.

“Whoa there Wikipedia. I was just wondering if it was over baring is all.”

“Sorry I tend to ramble when I’m nervous.”

“Nothing to be nervous about.”

Before Izzy could reply the teacher started the introduction to class. As the time moved on Izzy began to picture the teacher as a turtle looking woman. Her neck seemed as if it could disappear into her shoulders. She also walked on the outsides of her feet, making her appear to waddle much like a penguin. This thought caused Izzy to chuckle silently, but not silently enough because it drew the attention of Aphrodite.

“What’s got you giggling?”

“Sorry Aphrodite, i just noticed that the teacher looks like a turtle and walks like a penguin.”

The quirked brow of the blond goddess next to her cause her to throw her hand over her mouth when she realized what she had said. She hadn’t meant to let it slip like that. Her filter must be on the fritz again. She watched as the girl next to her mouthed the name several times before looking back at Izzy with a puzzled expression.

“Um…”

“We will talk about it once the bell rings what class do you have next?”

“Am…merican history with M…Mr. Baker.”

“Me too.”

They both turned their attention back to the turtle woman.

The bell rang signaling the end of period. They had a few minutes between classes so they could make it to the other buildings before the bell for the start of next period. Izzy stood slowly and slid her trig book into her bag. Aphrodite stood in the isle between her seat and Izzy waiting for her. As soon as they were out of the classroom she started with the questions.

“Aphrodite?”

“Yeah sorry about that.”

“Oh no need to be sorry but could you explain why you called me that?”

“Well I have a habit of people watching and like i did with Mrs. Gibson i often assign silly names to keep track of all the people I meet. The first time i saw you this morning on the quad i thought you looked like the goddess Aphrodite.”

“Well just so you know i don’t mind at all but the name is Rose.”

“Well Rose it was nice to meet you formally, I’m Izzy.”

“So you moved here from Phoenix?”

“Yeah. At first it was only supposed to be for the summer. You know a break from the usual order of my life. A chance to regroup after the horrible year i had back home.”

“So what changed?”

“I liked it here. I liked who i am when I’m here. I don’t have to be the old me. I can be who i am and not feel smothered by the oppressing peers i had to grow up with who knew me at all my awkward stages.”

“You’re rambling again.”

“Sorry.”

“It’s okay. I understand the need to want to be someone else. I have lived here my entire life. It has always been this way. You saw how it was on the quad this morning.”

“Yeah what is with that anyway?”

“I have no idea. It’s been that way since junior high.”

“I see, that has got to be annoying.”

“You have no idea. So you were saying that you make up names for people; if I’m Aphrodite then what names did you come up with for the others?”

Izzy chuckled slightly.

“You seriously want to know?”

“Sure.”

The girls had already entered their next class and had found seats together.

“Okay well the big guy that was next to you.”

“Emmett.”

“Yeah well that’s Link.”

“Link?”

“You know like missing Link. He reminds me of an ape. Long arms, thin waist, long legs.”

“Oh that is priceless. I will have to remember that. Who else.”

“Well then there is Tink and Pan.”

“That has got to be Alice and Edward.”

“I guess. The short pixie looking one and the coppertop?”

“Yep that’s them.”

“Then there was Casanova.”

“Oh yes the silent, brooding, yet delicious Jasper.”

“Did you just call him delicious?”

“Yes I did. Did you not see the puddles of drool all around the quad? There isn’t a girl here that hasn’t tried and failed at attracting his attention.”

“So he hasn’t broken all their hearts?”

“Well yes and no. He is the unobtainable. So they all want him but can’t have him.”

“Well now I may have to come up with a different name for him in light of the recent information I have received.” Izzy chuckled.

“Nope I like Casanova. He is a heartbreaker after all even if he never dated any of them.”

“Okay then I will stick with it. Just please don’t tell them.”

“Oh no i will leave that to you. I have a feeling with your nervous rambling you may just spit them out when they meet you.”

“Wait…what? Meet me? Who said i would meet them?”

“Oh Izzy you are really shy aren’t you?”

“Well I was called “the ghost” at my last school.”

“Ghost? Why would they call you that?”

“I liked that no one paid attention to me. I faded into the background and was invisible. At least i thought i was. Till…”

“You don’t have to tell me anything Izzy. We just met after all. Let’s get to know each other a little more before we do the whole whoa-is-me our lives suck bonding, okay.”

“Okay Rose. Wow that sounds weird. I think i will stick with Aphrodite.”

Rose chuckled at this and the two girls tuned back into the lesson they had already missed half of with their banter.
