She’s So Gone

Chapter 26:

The week passed quickly and soon it was friday once again. Izzy went to work at the music shop and had plans to go watch the band at the pizza shop afterwards. It was sorta becoming a routine. She could live with that. It was nice to feel like part of the in crowd, even if she often still felt like shrinking into the background.

School passed as normal. Her and Rose talking and giggling through their classes. It was at lunch that Rose brought up the pizza shop.

“Hey Izzy?”

“Yeah Rose.”

“If the guys okay it would you sing a song with me tonight?”

“You want me to sing with you….tonight?” Izzy squeaked.

“Yeah I have been working on this song for us..well the whole band actually but we need another female vocalist and I thought you would be perfect for the part.”

“Well i don’t know.”

“It’s just one song Swan.”

“Fine Rose. You win. I’ll sing with you tonight, but only if everyone agrees.”

Rose gave a very girlish squeal and darted off toward the lunch table where everyone was seated, as Izzy shook her head and giggled. Sometimes Rose would shed her Ice queen shell and just be a girl and this was one of those rare occasions. 

“So you’re singing with the band tonight huh?” Emmett asked.

“I guess so. If it’s alright with you guys that is?” Izzy ducked her head.

“Hell yeah it is. You sing awesomely.” Edward rambled.

“Thanks.”

“So what are you singing?” Alice asked.

“I wrote a song for us to sing. I will give you the music after school we can practice before we go to the pizza shop.” Rose said.

Izzy looked shocked.

“You mean the band hasn’t even seen it yet?”

“Nope. I have a lyrics sheet for you in my bag.”

“No music?”

“Nope you’re just singing, not playing.”

“Oh…okay.”

“It’s alright Izzy. Me and the boys have a few new songs that need to be gone over as well that we worked on last weekend. So it’ll all work out.” Jasper said to ease her worries.

“Okay. That makes me feel better. Atleast your not going out of your way to learn just one new song for me.”

“Nope.” Edward said popping the “P”

They all went their own ways after the lunch bell rang. Izzy was still a little nervous about singing with the band but she knew that with them beside her she would make it out okay.

Jasper knew that tonight would make or break the band. Well sorta. It was more like his heart he was worried about. He wrote a song with Edward and Emmett just for Izzy. He hoped she would like it and appreciate the message he was trying to send to her. He had fallen hard and now he wanted her to know it. He just hoped everything worked out okay.

The band rehearsed the new songs from the time they got to Emmett’s till it was time for them to get to work. Izzy wouldn’t be there till after eight so he had time to work himself up for it. They would do Rose’s song first after their break so Izzy could get it out of the way. Then the last song of the night would be his song to Izzy. Rose found it extremely romantic and told him just that. She couldn’t seem to wait to see how Izzy reacted to Jasper spilling his heart out to her. This was the Jasper she knew. The real Jasper.

Izzy finished work and headed to Ricky’s. The Pizza shop was hoping like it always is on a friday night. She found the corner booth that was reserved for the band and took a seat. They would be taking their break soon. As the ending chords for the song played out Edward stepped up to the microphone.

“We’re taking a break for now be back in twenty.”

The band stepped off the stage and made their way over to Izzy.

“You guys were great.”

“Thank you.”

The same waiter as last time came over. Jacob. He looked at Izzy and smiled while at the same time seemed to be frowning at the band. The girls giggled as he walked away after they placed their order. Emmett and Edward seemed to be holding Jasper back from something.

“So you ready to sing our song Swan?” Rose asked.

“Um no.”

“Buck up Swan, you got this. It’s just a bunch of rowdy teens from school. Most of them have heard you sing already. Just pick a spot on the back wall and stare at it. This way you don’t have to look at any of them. Believe me I don’t.” Rose giggled.

“You’re so mean Rose.” Alice laughed.

“Yeah but if she was nice then she wouldn’t be our Rose.” Emmett smiled.

“Thanks Babe.”

Rose and Emmett’s relationship was the talk of the school for the last week. Izzy wasn’t sure why it surprised anyone. They have been dancing around each other for years according to Jasper, Alice and Edward. Jacob brought their pizzas out and again smiled at Izzy. This time Izzy saw Jasper’s reaction. His clenched teeth and balled up fists, but Emmett’s ape like arm draped over his shoulder seemed to once again contain him. Izzy wasn’t sure what that was about and didn’t think she wanted to ask either.

They finished the pizza and cleaned up. Heading back toward the stage. Izzy was to wait until they called her up to sing with them. She was started to regret accepting Rose’s invitation to sing with the band.

“Tonight we have a treat for you guys.” Edward said into the mic.

“Yeah we are lucky to have a good friend of ours in the audience tonight who agreed to sing with us.” Emmett added.

“Some of you heard her sing at the competition a couple weeks ago, so give a big warm welcome to our good friend Izzy.” Alice called.

Cheers sprung up from all around her as she stood and made her way to the stage.

“Okay guys this is a new song written by our very own wonderful Rose. So let’s hear for her.” Jasper said.

“You ready Izzy?” Rose asked.

“Ready Rose.”

The band started to play.

The crowd cheered loud as they finished up the song.

“That was Izzy Swan everyone one. Take a bow Izzy.” Edward said.

Izzy felt her face flush as she bowed and stepped off stage. She made her way back to the booth. Just as she was sitting Jacob came over to the table.

“You were great Izzy.”

“Thank you.”

“Can I get you anything?”

“A lemonade would be great.”

“Right back.” Jacob said smiling at her.

Izzy didn’t care how sweet he was trying to be, he still gave her the creeps.

The band played a few other new songs before Izzy heard Edward speak into the mic once again.

“Hey guys this last song was written by are awesome drummer and leader Jasper. This goes out to a special lady who seems to have captured his heart.”

Izzy watched as Jasper and Edward switched places; Edward took over the drums while Jasper moved forward to the microphone. Izzy was shocked. She wondered who he wrote the song for. She didn’t recall any new girls hanging around the band. Maybe he was keeping her away from them until he felt it right. Izzy thought her heart might break. As the music for the next song started Jasper looked up and caught her eyes.
